Interesting, they're using motorcycle riders who are ham radio operators to support a bicycling event out here (Ventura County, California).

"...I’m helping through another group (MARC - Motorcycling Amateur Radio Club) in assisting the Multiple Sclerosis folks with their event at the end of May - MS Los Angeles - Coastal Challenge. They have a 2 day event in Ventura on May 30-31. Basically a bicycle event to raise funds for MS - around the Ventura area and up to Ojai and back.
They’ve looking for SAG (Support and Gear) drivers to help out the riders - providing pumps, patches and rides for breakdowns (“sagging”). They’re even offering rental vehicles and rooms for anyone willing to help.
MARC will be running a net control alongside the MS folks and will have some motorcycles on the course. So, having SAG drivers that are hams would be a bonus - but not required.
Please contact me directly off list if you’re interested in helping out with this worthy event.

Due to cellular tower overlap, Ventura County residents near the Los Angeles County border, particularly in the unincorporated area of Oak Park, may have received this alert. There are no evacuation notifications for Ventura County residents related to the Kenneth Fire.

Senior Canyon Reservoir, Ojai, CAOn 10/23/2025, at approximately 1:13 PM, Ventura County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call regarding a lost hiker. The reporting party, an 88-year-old, and her 74-year-old friend, were hiking to the Senior Canyon Reservoir when they took a wrong turn on a trail and became lost. (rescued)

- At 718 AM PST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain developing
across far western Ventura County and into eastern portion of
the Santa Barbara Channel. Short-duration intense bursts of
rainfall will occur across the advisory over the next several
hours. This will cause urban and small stream flooding.
Overflowing poor drainage areas will cause minor flooding in
the advisory area. Minor flooding of low-lying areas is
likely.

"Vandenberg Space Force Base Guardians and Airmen are scheduled to support the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying 28 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit, Friday, October 3rd, between 6:00 - 10:00 a.m. PT from Space Launch Complex 4 East.
Based on Vandenberg SFB's updated audibility modeling, residents of Santa Barbara, Carpentaria, Ojai, Ventura, and Oxnard may hear a sonic boom approximately 8-10 minutes after launch, with the greatest likelihood of audibility in the Carpentaria, Ojai, Ventura, and Oxnard areas."

Oooh, they found the remains of an Ojai woman who has been missing since April 24th, 2024. There have been extensive searches of the area (ground and air) for her all year.

On 09/26/2025, the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identity of the decedent to be missing person, Zyanya Valora. Zyanya Valora had been missing since 06/25/2024 when she was last seen at her residence by family members.
According to the Medical Examiner, there was not any obvious lethal trauma to the decedent and the cause and manner of death are pending further analysis. " -
Finally out of my janky room in Highland Park. It's all cleaned out and I'm about to pack up the computer. Can't believe I put up with this place for 17 years. But it was really cheap for LA.
On to a life more in line with the way we were supposed to live. Mostly off grid up in the mountains of the Los Padres National Forest. I'll be coming back into the city about 2x per month for a 2-3 days at a time to do landscape maintenance - or longer if any of you want to do a bigger project, thanks to friends who have offered space to stay when I'm in town. And I'll now be more readily available for #Landscaping projects in #FrazierPark or #Ojai or #Ventura which will all be in commute distance.

VCFD had a fox rescue this week:
"Fox rescued by VCFD Firefighters in Oak View, CA:
Earlier this week, VCFD Medic Rescue Engine 23 responded to a public service call at a home in Oak View near Ojai. When firefighters arrived, they discovered a fox that had become trapped in some netting and was unable to get free.
Firefighters carefully and gently cut away and untangled the netting, assessed the fox to ensure they were uninjured and released them back into the wild. "
