White supremacy is defined by exclusion.
That's why white feminism is largely defined by the same characteristic trait, as it inherits exclusion from its disappointed, philosophical parent.
Inclusive, intersectional feminism is the only way forward. Anything else just makes us either more patriarchy, or topsy-turvy patriarchy, both of which remain patriarchy and exceptionally shitty.

P.S. Topsy-turvy patriarchy is when women are in charge of a patriarchal society where they engage with the public and private spheres not as women, but as men, resulting in zero change in the quality of the system, and only flipping its demographics around. Historically, matriarchy was NEVER oppressive towards men, instead focusing on egalitarianism and rule by consensus (see the Minangkabau in Indonesia or the Musuo in China), so clearly oppression is a characteristic trait of patriarchy alone.

""Recent studies suggest that public policy in established democracies mainly caters to the interests of the rich and ignores the average citizen when their preferences diverge. I argue that high-income taxation has become a clear illustration of this pattern, and I test the proposition on a least likely case: Norway. I asked Norwegians to design their preferred tax rate structure and matched their answers with registry data on what people at different incomes actually pay in tax. I find that within the top 1 per cent, tax rates are far below (by as much as 23 percentage points) where citizens want them to be. A follow-up survey showed that this divergence is entirely driven by capital incomes being taxed too low. My results suggest that even in a reasonably egalitarian society like Norway, the rich get away with paying considerably less in tax than what people deem fair."

What kind of GM are you? - Factor analysis results
Greetings, programs!
2 weeks ago, I asked what kind of GM you are with a 43 question survey. 101 of you answered! Then I analysed the data to find 9 underlying factors to GM style and named them. Then I got bored and didn’t publish the results outside of Discord.
Well, now it’s time to publish the results! I’ve named all 9 underlying dimensions of GM style, and created an acronym!
S.T.O.P.J.A.D.E.N.
- Strategism
- Tacticism
- Orderism
- Preparism
- Jesterism
- Authentism
- Directorism
- Egalitarianism
- Narrativism
I also wrote some detailed descriptions of some of the components. Here they are:
Preparism
If you’re high on Preparism, you spend a lot of time planning your sessions ahead of time and building great encounters. You have lots of maps, and use them even outside of encounters. You’d rather follow the game you laid out for your players than be surprised, and when there’s a question of what’s happening outside of the players’ view, you’ve probably already been tracking it.
If you’re low on Preparism, you’d rather improvise than plan. No matter what crazy idea your players come up with, you can figure out how to roll with it. You don’t have many maps, and the ones you do prepare are more likely to be used in combat than in roleplaying. You can get ready for a session very quickly, as long as you understand the world’s lore.Directorism
If you’re high on Directorism, you’re interested in making your players shine. Your players work with you to build the world and set the scene at the table. You give plenty of information about your setting to the players, and they feel like the center of the game world.
If you’re low on Directorism, you’re in charge of this story. This is your world, and you’re the one who immerses everyone in it. There’s plenty going on in your world that the players have no idea about. And you’d rather your players avoid making joke characters.Egalitarianism
If you’re high on Egalitarianism, everyone at your table is an equal. You take turns GMing, and tell lots of different stories together. You like challenging the characters rather than the players, and are happy to kill off a character if the table thinks it makes a great moment. You trust your players to look after their own dice and character sheets.
If you’re low on Egalitarianism, your players aren’t ready to do what you do just yet. You’re probably the only one who GMs, and you’re more likely to roll the dice and manage the character sheets. You only run the one adventure in your world, and you’d rather avoid killing off a character and making things harder for everyone.I wish My ADHD had given Me enough attention span to do detailed descriptions of the other 6, but alas. The good news is: You can look at the data and decide for yourself what you think they mean.
Closing thoughts: In My search for an easy to remember acronym, I realised that the dimensions seem to mostly be clustered into pairs.
Strategism and Tacticism are about how challenge is presented to the party
Orderism and Preparism are about approaches to planning and the unexpected
Jesterism and Authentism are about sources of fun
Directorism and Egalitarianism are about attitudes to player-GM collaboration
And Narrativism is on its ownSo you could visualise all of this data as four cartesian grids: Challenge, Planning, Fun, and Collaboration, and a slider for Narrativism. If I’m right about the pairs.

The Secret Life of Copyright: Intellectual Property and Inequality in the Age of AI
John Tehranian
(Cambridge University Press)
"In The Secret Life of Copyright, copyright law meets Black Lives Matter and #MeToo as the book examines how copyright law unexpectedly perpetuates inequalities along racial, gender, and socioeconomic lines while undermining progress in the arts. Drawing on numerous case studies, the book argues that, despite their purported neutrality, key doctrines governing copyrights-such as authorship, derivative rights, fair use, and immunity from First Amendment scrutiny-systematically disadvantage individuals from traditionally marginalized communities. The work advocates for a more robust copyright system that better addresses egalitarian concerns and serves the interests of creativity. Given that laws regulating the use of creative content increasingly mediate participation and privilege in the digital world, The Secret Life of Copyright provides a template for a more just and equitable copyright system.
Utilizes insights from a variety of academic disciplines to better understand the operation of copyright law and its various doctrines in perpetuating and even exacerbating inequalities
Draws on case studies ripped from the headlines and history
Advocates for a more robust and egalitarian copyright system that also better promotes creativity" -
In aprile ci furono alcuni scontri a Livorno.

White Nationalist leader in #Arkansas accused of #LandSwindle, attempted murder
by Jacqueline Froelich February 6, 2026
"#PeterCsere makes his living developing private intentional communities. In 2016 in #ElPangui, #Ecuador, he helped establish #FruitHavenEcovillage, a vegan decentralized egalitarian consensus-based collective carved into the edge of an Amazon rainforest.
"Seven years later, in 2023, Csere fled Fruit Haven, chased by allegations that he took others’ money with him. Csere has since broken ground on a controversial new #WhitesOnly development in the #Arkansas #Ozarks branded Return to the Land, currently occupied by a few dozen followers. He and partner #EricOrwoll, a California native and amateur #pornographer, purchased 160 acres of raw property in rural Sharp County to construct their prototype #WhiteNationalist compound. The private membership association last year drew international media attention, public condemnation and great admiration from #Extremist brethren.
[...]
"The most serious allegation cited by Fruit Haven residents is that Csere physically attacked members of the #ShuarNation, an #Amazonian #indigenous tribe, in a dispute over llegal mining. The #Shuar were panning for gold along a stream on Fruit Haven property, which they claim is their original tribal land base.
"According to Frost, Csere, by that point, had begun to dress in 'military-style clothing' and had become increasingly confrontational with locals.
[...]
“Members from the white nationalist and #WhiteIdentitarian community have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund #ReturnTotheLand projects in Arkansas including tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees,' Russell said. 'Yet there is no evidence that money is being used as promised. This is not a misunderstanding — it is deliberate donor deception.' "

So, I've always believed in #Karma and #reincarnation. The past life I remember the most was as a female warrior who lived in the #ArasRiverValley around 1200BCE, among a egalitarian society of shepherds (#Arakians) who were also warriors (defenders), and were only called upon when needed. Among the deities we honored were the equivalent of #Manat and #Alat -- goddesses of Fate and Death, respectively. I knew when I heard the news about the helicopter crash that it happened in that valley. The gods of old have awakened -- and they are pissed!

New #Marriage of Unequals
Beginning in #20thCentury, as more women attended #college, #marriages seemed to move in an egalitarian direction, at least in one respect: greater number of men and women started partnering up with #educational equals. That trend, appears to have stalled and even reversed in recent years. Gaps in educational experience among #heterosexual couples are growing again. And this time? It’s women who are “marrying down.”

Remember Omar Aziz!
On February 16th Internationalists in Rojava commemorated Syrian anarchist Omar Aziz. Work and struggle of Omar in the early years of Syrian revolution to organize neighborhood councils echo in Rojava's communes today. It continues to inspire and serve as a reminder of self-organized and egalitarian roots of Syrian revolution.
Today diverse communities across Syria - be it Christians, Druze, Alawites, Kurds or many others - face existential struggle for self-determination in the face of new Syrian nation-state imposing one flag, one nation and one language for everyone. It is incredibly relevant today to remember the struggle of such people as Omar and many women, youth and men who pursued the aim of liberation and fell martyrs in the hands of Assad regime.
The new centralized state and mercenaries in its control are determined to suffocate and take the revolutionary society of Rojava off the map.

I know next to nothing about the political party but it claims to be egalitarian and secular, which *feels* nice. In 2026, they've made women-friendly promises and are pro-trans.
I hope they'll be grand contenders against ethno-fascist BJP, run by Narendra Modi.

Douglas Wilson's influence over Moscow Idaho has not been without controversy.
In a 2021 Vice exposé, former members of "Christ Church" alleged that ministers had encouraged them to stay in abusive relationships.
That tracks with Wilson’s 1999 book, "Fidelity: How to Be a One-Woman Man",
in which he wrote,“The sexual act cannot be made into an egalitarian pleasuring party.
A man penetrates, conquers, colonizes, plants.
A woman receives, surrenders, accepts.”For that reason, Wilson wrote, the dynamic of a #dominant #man and a #submissive #woman is
“an erotic necessity.”(Wilson called allegations of the church urging women to stay in abusive relationships “categorically false.”)
Wilson has also promoted another form of dominance.
In the 1996 book "Southern Slavery: As It Was",
Wilson and his co-author argued that the master-slave dynamic was “a relationship based upon mutual affection and confidence,”
-- and “there has never been a multi-racial society which has existed with such mutual intimacy and harmony in the history of the world” as that of the antebellum South.(In a 2020 blog post, Wilson said he now allows that while “the benevolent master is not a myth, the idea of the horrific taskmaster is no abolitionist myth either.”)
When I asked Wilson about his controversial statements, he likened himself to a chef who strategically deploys jalapeno peppers:
“Then some of my enemies online have combed through my writings, have gathered up all the jalapenos and put them on one Ritz cracker.”
In July, at the "National Conservatism Conference"
in Washington, DC, Wilson shared the stage with Sens. Josh #Hawley (R-Mo.),
Ron #Johnson (R-Wis.),
and Mike #Lee (R-Utah),
as well as #Vance,
who auditioned his “America is a people” bit a week before his star turn at the GOP convention.Wilson agrees with Vance’s suggestion that children should be allotted votes
-- managed by their parents.“I would like to see elections where households vote,” he told me.
Men, as the heads of households, would actually cast the votes.
Though he believes that women’s suffrage was “a mistake,”
he would allow a special exception for single mothers.Wilson offered the crowd a few one-liners
(“I’m a Presbyterian, not a Lesbyterian”),but mostly, he talked about the persecution of Christians:
“It used to be that the sexually troubled had to keep their kinks hidden away in the closet,” he mused.
“Now it is the conservative Christian who needs to keep his virtues hidden in the recesses of the closet.”
After the "National Conservatism Conference", Wilson appeared at the "Believers’ Summit",
which was headlined by #Trump and hosted by the conservative political group #Turning #Point #USA.But it’s not just conferences and interviews with the likes of #Tucker #Carlson where Wilson promotes his ideas.
He has a blog, a podcast, and a YouTube channel, thanks mostly to the urging of his children and younger colleagues.
One example is that every year since 2018, Wilson has been celebrating what he calls
No Quarter November:“The month where we say out loud what everyone is thinking.”
In a 2023 video, which was the brainchild of one of his sons, Wilson sits at a sumptuously appointed Thanksgiving table,
surrounded by his children and grandchildren,
and addresses the camera.“If you think of my blog as a shotgun,” he says,
“this is the month when I saw off all my typical, careful qualifications and blast away with a double-barreled shorty.”His wife, clad in an apron, brings out a turkey and places it in front of him,
and then the tranquil scene is interrupted by a blaring alarm and a glowing red “perimeter breach” sign.Wilson excuses himself, heads to his garage, and straps on a #flamethrower.
After using it to light a cigar, he aims the fire at cardboard cutouts of Disney princesses Elsa and Ariel, and the logos of Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and Netflix.
Wilson’s willingness to make campy content sets him apart, says Rachel Tabachnick,
an extremism researcher who has been studying Christian nationalism for decades.“Instead of a crotchety old guy talking about stoning people, he’s like, super cool,” she says. “He’s witty.”

“Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”*…
As the U.S. prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, Dan Friedman and Amanda Moore unpack the ways in which in Trump administration is working to control the country’s future by bulldozing its past. They open with a recounting of the marking of the 250th birthday of the Army (and of Donald Trump’s birthday) last June: several thousand came to watch the military parade; an estimated 5 million Americans held counter-protests…
… spectators had lined up for hours to get inside the security perimeter. Uniformed troops were handing out free bottles of Phorm Energy—a beverage launched nationally the month before by Anheuser-Busch and Dana White, a vocal Trump supporter who runs the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Phorm, which bills itself as the “ultimate energy drink,” is an official sponsor of America250, a government-funded nonprofit organizing a series of celebrations for the country’s 250th birthday, culminating on July 4 this year. When asked, a soldier explained he had been ordered to hand out the samples—despite Defense Department rules that bar the military from endorsing “a particular company, product, service, or website.” The Pentagon didn’t answer questions about this apparent violation…
But the parade was simply a warm-up…
… So it goes with the Trump administration’s approach to the country’s semiquincentennial. Congress is expected to allocate some $150 million for the festivities, but that’s not enough to fulfill Trump’s vision. So corporations with links to the president or his inner circle—UFC, Palantir, Oracle, Amazon, Coinbase—have signed on as sponsors, pouring in millions of dollars alongside companies like Chrysler, Coca-Cola, and General Mills…
… America250 and the White House insist they are planning nonpartisan festivities for all Americans, rather than creating a slush fund to throw the president militarized birthday parties and advance hard-right ideology. But in reality, American history is being subordinated to Trump’s cult of personality. The president’s face is suddenly everywhere—next to George Washington on America250-themed National Parks passes; alongside Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt on giant banners hanging from federal buildings; on a $1 coin under consideration by the US Treasury.
Faced with sporadic pushback from a congressional commission overseeing America250 and from career officials at various agencies, Trump is now seeking to evade even these modest constraints. In December, he launched a new organization, Freedom 250, that could implement his most outlandish anniversary events without the inconvenience of legislative oversight or mandatory bipartisanship. For the president’s 80th birthday this year, Freedom 250 will help organize a UFC fight on the White House lawn.
The semiquincentennial is just one part of the commander in chief’s broader campaign to harness the mechanisms of the federal government to enforce his preferred version of the nation’s history and culture—a Trumpified presentation of America’s past and present. On the fifth anniversary of the January 6 insurrection, the administration even rolled out a taxpayer-funded webpage seeking to recast the day’s events as a patriotic effort to protest “the fraudulent election.” Three weeks later, Trump’s FBI seized hundreds of thousands of 2020 ballots and other election material from Georgia’s largest county. “TRUMP WON BIG,” the president declared the next morning. “Crooked Election!”
Since his inauguration last year, Trump has taken personal control of the Kennedy Center—reshaping its artistic programming, installing a MAGA-dominated board that claims to have renamed it in his honor, and then closing it for renovations. He’s railed against “OUT OF CONTROL” museums that he insists are too focused on “how bad Slavery was.” He has successfully pressured the Smithsonian Institution to review displays to ensure “unbiased content” and has extracted significant concessions over what top universities teach students. At his direction, the National Park Service has altered or removed scores of exhibits at parks and historic sites on topics including slavery, Native Americans, climate change, and even fossils. Trump acolytes are also leveraging federal dollars to stop local librarians and educators from sharing content they dislike.
Under the pretense of stamping out “woke” ideas and promoting patriotism, the White House is attempting to mandate uncritical acceptance of its own take on the American story, one that celebrates the martial feats of mostly white men and an imagined religious and ideological conformity that minimizes the fights, tribulations, and dissenters who have defined the country. It’s an effort that flies in the face of American ideals—and reality.
“In a pluralist democracy, there are invariably conflicts of values,” says Alexander Karn, a Colgate University historian who has written about the 250th anniversary. “To deny that messiness by seeking to erase the perspectives that don’t flatter a dominant group or help create a triumphal history is anti-egalitarian and, therefore, anti-democratic.”
Instead, Karn argues, “the road to a ‘more perfect Union,’ which is enshrined in the Constitution, runs through the past, and it depends on our willingness to confront our history in an honest and thoroughgoing way.”
Which is not the road we’re on…
[Friedman and Moore supply much more detail on the revisionist (in some case, “suppressionist”) efforts underway, and their relationship to the MAGA agenda. They conclude…]
…Rallies that celebrate a simplified, sanctified historical narrative have long been a favorite tool of autocrats. “Dictators brook no opposition, and this extends to the past,” says Karn, the Colgate historian. “When a dictator is intent on creating or sustaining a hierarchical social order, he will see to it that history abides.”
The military parade through Washington four days later proved to be a clumsy prelude for Trump’s very real efforts to deploy troops, along with heavily armed federal agents, on the streets of even more cities—often against the wishes of local officials. To justify sending the National Guard to Portland, the president made false claims about widespread violence, perhaps because Fox News repeatedly re-aired violent footage from 2020 as though it were part of the 2025 anti-ICE protests.
Since August, the Labor Department’s DC headquarters has displayed an America250-branded banner with a Mao-style image of Trump above the words “American Workers First.” The spectacle drew attention when National Guard members deployed by Trump were photographed beneath it—an image that captures the authoritarian ethos of his second term.
The troops, supposedly dispatched to Washington to fight crime, are now staying on in connection with the semiquincentennial. In an October court filing, the DC attorney general revealed that Guard leaders were planning for a prolonged deployment. “We know that America250 occurs this summer, and that will be a factor in determining the future of the mission,” a Guard commanding general wrote in an email included in the filing. In January, Trump officially extended the DC operation through the end of 2026, even as he bowed to court rulings blocking him from unleashing the armed forces on other parts of the country.
That Trump’s enthusiasm for the domestic use of troops is merging with America’s 250th festivities is almost too easy a metaphor. To celebrate the anniversary of a war sparked in part by the quartering of soldiers in US cities, the administration is lengthening a military occupation vehemently opposed by the local population.
A quarter-millennium later, amid “No Kings” protests and an unprecedented executive power grab, the arguments against tyranny that inspired American independence are alive and pressing. It seems worth asking whether America250 will celebrate the ideals of the country’s founders—or those of the monarch they rebelled against…

As we face the past, we might send heliocentric birthday greetings to Galileo Galilei, the physicist, philosopher, and pioneering astronomer; he was born on this date in 1564. Galileo (whom, readers will recall, had his share of trouble with authorities displeased with his challenge to Aristotelean cosmology), died insisting “still, it [the Earth] moves.”
Draft of Galileo’s letter to Leonardo Donato, Doge of Venice, in which he first recorded the movement of the moons of Jupiter– an observation that upset the notion that all celestial bodies must revolve around the Earth. (source)

#California’s #NPR and #PBS stations will cut staff and programs after funding slashed
By Maya C. Miller and Cayla Mihalovich
July 29, 2025 10:05 AM PT"Small NPR and PBS stations in California are teetering after Congress pulled funding from #PublicBroadcasting. Even big stations are bracing for cuts.
"Dozens of California public broadcasting stations will lose millions of dollars after Republicans in Congress voted to strip them of federal funding, cutting off a vital lifeline in rural communities and limiting access to local news programming in an era of hyperpartisan national media.
"While California broadcasters are assuring audiences that they plan to keep their signals running, they also warn that cost-saving changes are inevitable.
"Radio and television stations of all sizes across the Golden State say that to survive, they’ll likely be forced to lay off staff and cut programming unless they’re able to make up the losses through fundraising. Their leaders warn that the cuts will disproportionately harm locally produced programs, the most expensive to create but among their most popular content, that inform millions of listeners and viewers.
"Republicans have long wanted to cut funding for public broadcasting, arguing such services should be funded by private donors, not taxpayers. Their efforts prevailed when Congress last week finalized President Trump’s request to rescind $1.1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides grants to National Public Radio, the Public Broadcasting Service, their affiliates and other independent public media creators. All nine of California’s #Republican members of #Congress voted in favor of the funding cuts.
"Now, roughly 35 stations from #SanDiego to #Hoopa in #HumboldtCounty have lost critical funding.
"While many public broadcasters remain hopeful that they’ll find ways to endure, all agree the rescission undermines the #egalitarian mission of public media — to create a nationwide network that provides access to quality information, stories and music for local #communities.
" 'That has been our superpower,' said Joe Moore, president and general manager of #KVPR #ValleyPublicRadio in #Fresno. His station lost about 7% of its budget, or $175,000, from the #CPB.
" 'The New York Times doesn’t have the type of investment in #Alaska or in #NorthDakota — or on #TribalReservations, bringing local news from these communities — that public radio does.'
"Smaller stations whose budgets relied heavily on federal dollars to make ends meet are the most at risk of closure. In Eureka, the community-owned PBS affiliate #KEET-TV stands to lose $847,000 — nearly half of its operating budget — due to the defunding of CPB. To survive, all of its funding will need to come from #CommunitySupport, since the station has no institutional backer such as a local college or school district.
"David Gordon, KEET’s general manager and executive director, says that as much as he hopes the station will stay afloat even at reduced capacity, he won’t make the same bold proclamation that, 'We’re not going anywhere,' like some stations have.
" 'I can’t guarantee that KEET will be here once the dust settles from this defunding move,' Gordon said. He emphasized that he was speaking for himself and not on behalf of his station.
" 'I hope it is, and I think there’s a good chance that it’ll survive in some form. But absolutely will it? I don’t know if I can say that.'
"Nearby, Mendocino-based NPR member station #KZYX was forced to lay off its news director after losing 25% of its operating budget, or $174,000, from the CPB. That means news will include fewer in-depth stories, such as interviews with city council members or county supervisors, said Andre de Channes, KZYX’s general manager and director of operations.
" 'There isn’t the time to source out those kinds of things,' he said. 'So the news gets more like a headline news.'
"The station serves roughly 130,000 listeners, including in Mendocino County and part of Lake County. When De Channes first learned about the CPB cuts, he immediately worried about fire safety, since listeners who live in #OffTheGrid #RuralAreas without access to internet or cell service rely on KZYX for #EmergencyInformation.
"Those potentially lifesaving #EmergencyAlerts became a rallying cry for public media providers and their allies as they begged Congress to preserve funding for their stations, especially those in remote, rural areas that also tend to be Republican. Frank Lanzone, the longtime general manager of the NPR-affiliated KCBX in San Luis Obispo, said his station has sometimes been the only on-air source providing emergency information during #SevereWeather events." 'There’s been several times in very bad storms when we’re the only station on the air in our area because of either power outages or people’s generators ran out of propane,' said Lanzone, who has worked in public radio for more than 50 years.
KCBX, which serves about 45,000 listeners from Santa Barbara to Monterey, will lose $240,000 in funding from CPB, about 13% of its operating budget." 'It’s going to hurt the stations and the people that listen to them who need it the most,' Lanzone said. 'The most vulnerable, the ones out in the middle of nowhere.'
"Local programs are most at risk
Both radio and television station leaders emphasized that local programming — shows that are created and produced in-house rather than purchased from another producer — will be first on the chopping block. To produce locally focused public television programming, stations must invest additional time, money and work on top of the membership dues they pay to be affiliated with PBS, which unlocks a large catalogue of programming that they can air at no additional cost."For PBS viewers in the Inland Empire, that likely means the loss of popular local programs such as '#InlandEdition,' an Emmy-winning weekly half-hour public affairs show, and '#LearnWithMe,' an award-winning #bilingual English-Spanish children’s show, both of which are produced in house by affiliate KVCR.
" 'The local stuff that’s so important to people is probably the stuff that’ll go away,' said Connie Leyva, executive director of KVCR and a former Democratic state senator. The station stands to lose about $550,000 in annual CPB funding, about 6% of its budget.
She emphasized that the station also wanted to preserve its journalism staff — two full-time reporters and one part-time — who have recently focused on federal #ImmigrationRaids taking place across the region." 'If we’re not here, the #InlandEmpire is just hearing about what’s happening in Los Angeles,' Leyva said. 'We want to know what’s happening in our backyard, what’s happening at the schools around us, what’s happening at the Home Depots around us.' "

Kerala has the highest life expectancy, at 77.3 years; and the highest sex ratio – with 1,084 women per 1,000 men – in India.
"This was achieved by conscious steps to devolve #power. In Kerala there was an effort to make sure government policies in education, health, and other areas were administered equitably by the people themselves, through local governments in every village, instead of by bureaucrats in the state capital."

"Inca Communism: A Moneyless Empire That Fed Millions But Ruled with an Iron Fist
One of history’s most fascinating experiments in communism was carried out by the Inca Empire, a sprawling civilization across the harsh Andes that thrived without a single coin changing hands.
To modern eyes, the Inca running a completely cashless society might seem like a socialist utopia—almost too ideal or too strange to be true. It’s easy to retroactively label it 'Inca communism.' Yet the reality was far more complex than 20th-century political theories suggest. The state ensured that no one went hungry and that everyone had shelter, but this wasn’t a grassroots workers’ revolution. It was a fiercely rigid, theocratic system that controlled people’s lives from birth to death.
(. . .)
Families never received formal deeds. Instead, they were granted the right to work a specific plot, sized according to the number of mouths they needed to feed—an arrangement resembling communism in principle. Yet in reality, the system emphasized collective stewardship rather than outright ownership, tightly controlled by a paternalistic government. While it echoed certain socialist ideals, the primary goal was to reinforce the emperor’s absolute power. Even today, echoes of this system remain. Communal land rights continue to shape indigenous politics and identity in Peru and Bolivia.
(. . .)
One of the most remarkable aspects of the Inca’s proto-communist system was how they managed millions of people without currency. Everyday citizens exchanged basic goods at local gatherings called 'katus,' while the state maintained a strict monopoly over luxury items and long-distance trade.
Consider gold and silver. When the Spanish arrived, they ravaged the continent in pursuit of these metals, yet for the Inca, precious metals held no economic value. They were simply the 'sweat of the sun' and 'tears of the moon,' used only to embellish temples and signal the status of the elite. By removing the profit motive entirely, the Inca effectively prevented the rise of a wealthy merchant class that could challenge imperial authority.
(. . .)
But it was not a one-sided arrangement. In return for this grueling work, the state operated a vast welfare system. Giant stone silos, called qullqas, were scattered across the empire, stocked with freeze-dried potatoes, corn, and other staples. If drought struck, or if someone became too old or ill to work, the state ensured they were fed.
It was a strict social contract. People gave the state total obedience and backbreaking labor, and in exchange, the state guaranteed survival. That mindset—“all for the state”—did not disappear with the empire’s fall. It left a lasting mark on South American culture, where the expectation of a strong, protective government continues to influence politics and society.
Ultimately, Tahuantinsuyu (the Inca Empire) was not an egalitarian paradise or a fully realized communist society. It was a meticulously organized command economy, one that prioritized collective survival over individual freedom.
Standing among the sun-baked ruins of Machu Picchu, it’s striking to consider: today, we have unprecedented technology, yet poverty and inequality persist. The Inca managed to provide for everyone without relying on capitalism. Perhaps the greatest lesson from the Andes is that while perfect equality may be impossible, eliminating poverty is largely a matter of political will and administrative capability."

"When #civic #knowledge is actively taught, #students are more likely to support #egalitarian views about #gender. These kind of views can include, for instance, that women & men should both be able to hold high positions in #politics, & that they should be paid equally." There appears to be a conflation here between biologically determined #sex & socially & psychologically determined gender - they are NOT the same thing.

“...women’s participation on the frontlines was “highly correlated” with success and keeping the movement nonviolent and more likely to lead to egalitarian democracy.
In other words, fully free, politically active women are a threat to authoritarian and authoritarian-leaning leaders – and so those leaders have a strategic reason to be sexist,” Chenoweth and Marks wrote in 2022."

I know next to nothing about the political party but it claims to be egalitarian and secular, which *feels* nice. In 2026, they've made women-friendly promises and are pro-trans.
I hope they'll be grand contenders against ethno-fascist BJP, run by Narendra Modi.
