"To me this is what Solidfund is about - material support for workers to collectively control and own their own work, which also means securing their workspace.

"Solidfund is rooted in the here and now of defending jobs and improving workers' lives through worker cooperation. It's also part of a wider movement to challenge exploitation, redistribute power to workers, and show that another way of organising work and the economy is not just possible but already happening.

"The standoff in Stirchley is complicated. It's political as well as financial, highlighting the general conflict between external landlords and private owners of capital assets on the one hand, and workers, domestic renters and working class communities on the other. The conflict plays out over control of physical space for us to work and live, as well as access to the cash without which it's really difficult to change anything.

"Calverts, the co-op where I used to work, now pays £110,000 a year in rent to a private landlord who can from time to time decide to throw them out. That's equivalent to about £10k from every full time worker member, every year. They're also legally obliged to maintain and modernise his property, while he does nothing but pocket wealth that could instead be going back to the solidarity economy.

"That's exactly what the SCD project aims for, why we need more not fewer collectively controlled physical spaces, and why Solidfund members decided to support them."

My day job is now recruiting a Data Analyst for a 12 month contract (remote, but UK only).

We're a worker co-operative of ~20 people working on data infrastructure/standards for social good.

This position is mostly helping us provide the support and technical knowhow that keeps the IATI Standard (about international aid projects) running.
