Worker #coops are the most plausible alternative to #capitalism that is clearly better than the status quo. The far left needs to unify around this vision of a postcapitalist society, so we can point to a clear example of how things could be different.

  15. Consell per a #cooperatives: al balanç anual, posau-hi la informació completa i comparable.

No poseu conceptes estranys com l'EBITDA i oculteu l'excedent final anual. Mentre el primer pot ser positiu, el segon pot ser negatiu. Vist a @abacus.

Compareu les dades amb l'any anterior: ingressos, resultats, clients, personal... No està bé només mostrar allò que puja. Vist a @SomEnergia.

Si no, sembla que es vol ocultar alguna cosa als socis copropietaris.

#Cyclosporiasis , #ExplosiveDiarrhea , or #Trumpiarrha in the news still has us looking for alternative sources, and some of those might be local #MomAndPop stores and/or restaurants, #CoOps , and #FarmersMarket sites selling local goods. 28. Forgive lengthy quote from an email I received from Siôn Whellens of Solidfund - solidfund.coop/join

"Right now, a defence of workers' livelihoods and homes is happening in Stirchley, Birmingham. It's a high-stakes challenge to the whole movement and a wake-up call for co-op solidarity.

"Solidfund members have risen to the challenge. They just pledged £30,000 of the fund's reserve cash in support of Stirchley Cooperative Development (SCD)'s effort to take over three workspaces and 39 affordable homes. Read the full story here - solidfund.coop/civicrm/mailing

"To me this is what Solidfund is about - material support for workers to collectively control and own their own work, which also means securing their workspace.

"Solidfund is rooted in the here and now of defending jobs and improving workers' lives through worker cooperation. It's also part of a wider movement to challenge exploitation, redistribute power to workers, and show that another way of organising work and the economy is not just possible but already happening.

"The standoff in Stirchley is complicated. It's political as well as financial, highlighting the general conflict between external landlords and private owners of capital assets on the one hand, and workers, domestic renters and working class communities on the other. The conflict plays out over control of physical space for us to work and live, as well as access to the cash without which it's really difficult to change anything.

"Calverts, the co-op where I used to work, now pays £110,000 a year in rent to a private landlord who can from time to time decide to throw them out. That's equivalent to about £10k from every full time worker member, every year. They're also legally obliged to maintain and modernise his property, while he does nothing but pocket wealth that could instead be going back to the solidarity economy.

"That's exactly what the SCD project aims for, why we need more not fewer collectively controlled physical spaces, and why Solidfund members decided to support them."

  32. I've been working my way through the list at handcraftedcode.org/ (thanks @jaredwhite ) and following the people there because I really want to connect with others who are resisting the siren song of vibe coding. Thanks to the many who have followed me back.

I'm really interested in hearing what everyone's doing with handcrafted code. But I'm especially interested in hearing how people are navigating the current job market. I know some are probably resigning themselves to using AI at work but not on personal projects, and I'm certainly not going to judge anyone for that: the economy sucks, you do what you have to to survive, no ethical consumption under capitalism, etc.

But I'm sure there are a lot of people like me who are making the principled stand not to use LLMs even at work, and I'm wondering: how's that going? Have people managed to find jobs that haven't bought into the hype? If so, how did you find such a job? My attempts to find some sort of curated online list of companies that don't require AI use have not been successful; it mostly turns up listicles from three years ago, with names of companies that all mandate AI use in 2026.

I left my AI-mandating job back in June. I'm thinking of going freelance and looking for contract work from companies who either don't like AI, or don't care whether or not I use it as long as I do good work. I'm not really sure how big a market there is for that, and I'd love to hear people's experience.

I'd really love to start some sort of mutual support network for working AI-free developers, like a way to share information about available no-AI jobs with prospective no-AI employees. But that's pretty much what FediHired is, and while I love that, I haven't had much success with it.

My other, more daring, plan is to form an employee-owned tech cooperative composed of developers who don't use LLMs and don't take contracts with clients who want us to use or implement them. I wonder if there's enough interest out here to support something like this?

    Una alternativa #cooperativa a #Spotify o #Bandcamp que està fent bons progressos.

És interessant l'estructura organitzativa a dos nivells, un aprenentatge dels primers intents fallits.

  42. Workers, producers, consumers, and others have been establishing cooperatives and other community-led associations to pool resources, share benefits, and address socioeconomic challenges for centuries. The United Nations marked 2025 as the year of cooperatives, positioning them as “essential solutions to today’s global problems,” kindling renewed interest in data collectives and cooperatives.

They cover a wide range: The Kerala Food Platform enables about 2,500 farmers in the southern Indian state to trace and market their produce, including rice, fish, fruits, and vegetables. Mexico-based PescaData helps small-scale fishers in Latin America and the Caribbean to manage and benefit from their catch records, while the Native BioData Consortium is a repository of the genetic and environmental data of Indigenous people.

Increasingly, data sets are being created for AI-related purposes, including in low-resource language communities, whose data, including voice data, is valuable for training small models and creating speech recognition tools. For these communities, a data collective is a more practical solution, [Raffi] Krikorian said.
