Why does every single Security Camera manufacturer have to be an EvilCorp now? I tried looking for a BASIC record-to-MicroSD non-Wifi camera to sit in my front window to monitor my garden, could I find a single one that worked? Nope!
Every single brand I tested (Swann being the most recent) required the user to give their corporation a HUGE amount of personal information first before you could even access your camera,.. open access to location, provide email address, provide exact address, verify email address, allow the app to open location, allow the app to send notifications, allow the app access to your router user and password, allow the app this that and the other... before it'd even let you get to the camera's settings!! The basic settings page is LOCKED underneath all of this data harvesting crap, by-design you cannot access it before surrendering all of this information to them, putting in a MicroSD does nothing, you have to enable recording to it from the settings page or it just sits there doing nothing..
You shouldn't have to surrender your security and privacy in order to set up a security camera..
So, I've ended up extensively researching a 'DashCam' that I'm going to mod and repurpose into the perfect home security camera, instead.
No wifi, no contracts, no huge amount of personal information sold to *third-parties*, no *cloud storage*, no location access, no access to my router, no aluminum-siding made from hens teeth and unicorn farts.. just exactly what I wanted and exactly what I need; 24/7 monitoring of my garden area loop-recorded to MicroSD.
