  1. One of the presidential candidates for FIDE, the chess world's governing body, wants biometric data and AI modelling to counter online cheating.

I think I'd prefer a little cheating on chess servers than FIDE having my personal data and AI engines checking up on me

  10. Just got an email from my gym saying they’re changing the access system in just five days to require a fingerprint. 🤯

The email was super casual about it. No real info on why it’s needed, where the biometric data is stored, how long it’s kept, or whether there’s an alternative.

    Is this normal?!

I sent them a friendly email asking for more details.

  11. @theblufnews it's ridiculous. I have no problem with verification for finance but Biometrics being stored is so dangerous.

This nextgen facial scanning is either owned or affiliated with Equifax which is the security equivalent of storing your water in a colander

  12. I was unaware of this and when asking my new bank to verify destruction of my biometrics under the APP1988, they are claiming retention under the AML for 7 years after the closure of the morgage.

Grotesque nany state we live in. So gross. Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park comes to mind - just because they can collect this stuff, doesn't mean they should. especially when it could or will eventually leak. I cant change my face

  18. SF Standard: Castro bars dropped face scanners. The bigger fight isn’t over. “A months-long fight over an ID-scanning system that photographs arriving patrons at Castro gay bars has come to a head, with all three venues known to use it — Badlands, Toad Hall, and The Mix — halting the practice under pressure from privacy advocates. But the retreat from the tool, PatronScan, hasn’t […]

  19. Why Biometric Identification Is Becoming A Core Feature of Crypto Security

Biometric technologies use physical features to enable identity verification, such as voice, fingerprints, or facial features. These methods help keep criminals from stealing data to carry out illicit transactions, which is why crypto exchanges and individual users are increasingly integrating them. Exchanges utilize technologies such as electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) and liveness detection to create a multilayered security system…….Continue reading…. By Samuel […]
