"Pompompurin's" re-sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday. The judge's previous sentence (time served, restitution, plus 20 years supervised release) was found to be unreasonably lenient given the severity of the crimes and the need for the punishment to protect society, prevent recidivism, and act as a deterrent to others.

Both the prosecution and the defense have submitted memoranda to the court with exhibits.

Recently, I noticed that middleman-blog received many new commits.

So I've taken the time to upgrade my stack, remove outdated dependencies and upgrade #middleman and middleman-blog to their most recent versions, and #ruby too 🚀

It's not so critical for a website generator, but it still feels good to get rid of the old #ruby 2.8 stack on my dev env and be back on a modern #ruby

That seems oddly specific...

One thing that should also be made clear is that most people in #tech enjoy some sort of #conflictofinterest.

Anything that requires solutions beyond the current norm is "a waste of time", because they are selling the norm.

Making money as a #middleman is the goose that lays a golden egg and anything challenging that is a threat.

Some people would like to keep the exploitative market precedents set by big corporations because of the possibility that "it might be them some day".

"It's a bit hard to set up" - which is categorically untrue, because you're now placating to the #middleman economy that #Microsoft has an entire support chain for.

The understanding of an install process, of what a partition is, how to burn USBs, etc is simply a matter of quick and nimble communication.

Don't overcomplicate, don't sugarcoat, but don't salt it either. To effectively motivate people you need to use positivistic language with a focus on clarity.

I've been distracting myself by converting my personal web site from #Middleman to #Astro.

It's been fairly straightforward and allows me to easily add a little bit of interactivity to my personal site.

I've liked messing around with #Svelte and #SvelteKit but since I'm doing some #React in my current job I thought it would be good to get more practice in my personal time.

I am having some difficulty with embedding a shopify buy button into my website (static site using Ruby-based Middleman). I am putting the div ID ref in the data yml file and then calling it using ERB.

The button shows up and works.... It's just showing up at the very bottom of the page, beneath the footer.

Ive tried putting the div Shopify gives you directly where I want it to, without ERB calling the data yml file, and it still just shows up at the bottom.

I've tried having the JS directly in the head and I've tried putting it in the asset compiler.

My duckduckgoing has resulted in finding one other person who had this issue and it seems like they solved it by changing ' to " in the div ref id, but they were not using Middleman. I tried that too and still no dice.

Anyone else run into this issue? Advice? #ruby #middleman #staticsitegenerator #shopify #erb
