While #freebsd isn't fully slop free, I think I might still make the switch from #nixos to it. At least until #netbsd or #redox can boot to sway with my hardware.
(or I can always pick back up my hobby OS project again and try my own lol)
If FreeBSD makes stricter #antiai policy, I will donate as much as I can, otherwise I am just using it as limbo until a better #antiAI alternative becomes viable.
Which honestly really sucks, I really liked freebsd and used it full time (~5 years ago) and it was super fun! It sucks that I don't feel comfortable donating to them because I don't want my money in the hands of any AI company. Maybe I could still donate to specific individuals that don't use AI though...
I feel like this whole AI thing is designed to hurt free software the hardest, and its making me really sad. This was supposed to be the escape from all the garbage, not to have it infect us too.

I understand why you don't wish to invest any more emotional energy into the topic, but I feel dismissing "purity" activism is misguided. I appreciate and encourage art that expresses frustration with AI, yours included, but respect should only be granted to those who are themselves respectful. Neither of us can walk in the shoes of others, but as a (different kind of) artist myself, we should both realize that using this so-called "AI", in any capacity, is an insult to ourselves, and creators of all kinds.
Your decision to maintain relationships in certain parts of the FOSS space makes sense, but if you ever wish to join the effort against these machines, we would love to have you. <3

David, are you aware that Framasoft, the org that you lend your art to, makes use of "AI" "assisted" code and uses software from "AI" companies in at least one of it's projects? Not calling you a hypocrite by any means, but having a whole series of comic strips mocking AI, I feel you should know.

I wish there were a GPL based license that forbids AI/LLM involvement for any derivative work (and itself).
Like maybe that's how we win the AI issue, we just write software incompatible with AI.

I feel this way too but TBH it's more about being aligned to following instructions over rules rather than doing what's right over rules.
Because an AI (LLM or actual AI) perfectly aligned to morality is *terrifying*. But of course, I'd just have to be a slightly better person. To the rich who make money not from personal work but taking a cut from other people's work (the owner class), it's an existential risk.
