  2. Day 4 - -

Another day another 8km walk, took it easy today, our dog is like the Duracell Bunny, however I think even he was struggling after 60km of walkies in 4 days

There is a history to this lake, Donald Campbell died here trying to set a new water speed record in the 1960s (YouTube it)

    @tailscale

  4. I can no longer recommend 18.5 release doesn't have the ability to route traffic out to the internet via an egress node

  5. Started listening to the "Diary of a CEO" podcast, for me right now, this is the best thing I've listened to in a long time, started with Jimmy Carr.. Stephen Fry next

  6. If you've ever wanted to set up a mesh network then might be for you. I've written up a blog post here: tech.davidfield.co.uk/2023/03/ which shows how to do this.

There is also included in this some work I'm doing with which might help resolve part of my ask.

  7. Today I found out that if I add tailscal to a VPN, by default the routing allows the remote access to my lan from the

    Kinda useful,

  8. Thought is here
Has anyone got connected to either or
    I know it's not a supported distro

  9. Has anyone got running well on the or any other cool hacks?

  10. The complexity around security of even a has got to the point troubleshooting is a nightmare.

I set up on this weekend then suddenly I started getting issues on the dashboard.

Thought it was so moved the back to turns out is was blocking the site because "reasons"

a quick add to an Allowlist and everything is fine with the world again..

  11. As a manager, I like to at least have the basics that my team are doing, I last did terraform 3 years ago, so tonight I've installed and setup a -init server then created some to deploy 3 nodes.

A little bit of troubleshooting, but I got there.. and its now in

Next step ssh on and run some ansible and wrap it all up as a

Fully intend to write this up as a post.. Its handy stuff.

  12. Been trying the 360 Reality Audio as I have a 60 day free pass to the service. I am using my Sony MX3 headset, photographed my ears (it's a thing) got the tidal app optimised, found 360 tracks, and can't hear the difference..

I put this down to either being old or not really caring, not sure which. I've got 59 days left..

  13. Yet again, morning, brain kicks in with a startlingly great answer to a work problem and I know at 6am if I don't write it down, by 8am this idea will be fully erased and only a symbolic link will be left to a dead space

So I get up, and draw out the whole thing on my Chromebook so I can refer back to it on Monday

Now I'm wide awake knowing I will be knackered later.

  14. While I use internally I have a need for family in foreign lands to access the UK via a VPN into home. is the best choice for this and is how I deliver to my family based on from

  16. There are a lot of complex monitoring solutions out there, I was looking for something different and came up with this

    tech.davidfield.co.uk/2022/09/

using and pointing the data to in the cloud (same thing works on prem) and displaying it in

    It's a nice learning exercise

  17. If you you might be a purist or you might not want to manage to that level, for the latter group here are some tools I find handy self hosting my little corner of the internet

  22. I have just spent 2 days and I’ve finally got a #mastodon server setup on #ubuntu 22.04 with Docker, UFW, and Postfix all working, it’s taking some truly strong #googlefu to get this working as not one single howto on the subject works.. Needless to say, I’ll blog what I’ve done and expand this into #ansible over the Xmas break..

  23. #travelling to #bangkok and looking for a cheap decent hotel I would recommend the #thequarter in #ladprao opposite union mall

    https://www.quarterladprao.com/

Cheap, clean, easy to get into central Bangkok as the #metro is 1 minute walk. Loads to eat and drink in the area, as in, it's where #Thais come to eat..

I think we will make this our default #bangkok bolt hole from now on.

    #traveltip #travel
  24. How much of a #nerd am I?

I've got the hotel wifi directing to my #GL-AR750S home router and that connected using Wireguard back home routing all my traffic home. I've got a #chromecast plugged into the hotel TV which has #plex running from my server at home.. So my #pixel7pro essentially things this #hotel room is another room in my house..

    No #networksniffing happening here :-)

  27. So I was looking at the #smartplugs I have at home, and ended up down a spaghetti loop which ended up with #homeassistant feeding #grafana data which made a dashboard which shows the #energy consumption on each smart plug.

I know there are many different and probably better ways of doing this, I learned a few things though..
