  1. Sunday with Coxhoe on the run, mostly easy until the group split at quarington hill to shorten the route for someone suffering from some hip pain. A few of us kept the longer route picking up the pace down cold knuckle quarry track, back to old heugh hall and the track back to patkhill. We came together back at the white gate that marks the old Coxhoe railway crossing, perfect timing. Absolutely perfect conditions, cool air, dry and sunny although a good half of the rum was in the shade.
Coffee at the lamplight before heading home for a slice of the coffee and walnut cake my son baked yesterday.

  11. I do not trust most of garmin metrics but their navigation features are just out of this world.

You go to a new place you have never been before, create a route where most locals run, transfer it to the watch and not only you get to run safe but you get to see your surroundings and discover the place you are at.

No phones needing just navigate with the watch. Is just brilliant 😍

  15. Saturday back in the quad, we replaced square blade rowing with a new exercise that combined breaking the drive phrase of the stroke into parts and square blading. A quiet morning with only a few boats joining us part way through our session. Beautiful cool air warming up with the threat of rain, but only the threat. Taking a bit of care as a couple of club members have come down with sickness recently after exposure to the water.

  18. I attempted "zone 2" #running today and found it almost impossible. I barely ever got above "fast walk" pace.

When I got back home I did some reading and apparently there are many different ways of calculating HR zones. The #Garmin default based on percentage of max HR puts my zone 2 at between 111-128bpm but another option based on percentage of HR *range* works it out as 129-142 which is much more like my "easy run". I'll try that next time and see how it goes.

  22. New location, here also a weekend-fun-run from the campsite. Went up through the vineyards across the river and then took a part of the Moselsteig. Very beautiful sights from above on the Mosel river. Not as technical as in the Pfalz but, especially in the vineyards, sometimes very steep trails. Did 17.8 km and 544m EG. Probably the final run of our stay in Germany because we go home on Sunday.

  31. Garmin and Two to Four Weeks of Waiting

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

A few days ago I think I ran and then swam. While waiting for lunch I noticed that the Garmin Forerunner 570 had a bit of plastic sticking out of it so I pulled on it, to see if it came loose. It didn’t. It stayed put. It appeared to come from between the case, and the screen. I suspect that it is part of the o-ring or adhesive mateerial that keeps the screen attached to the body of the watch that came loose.

I would have taken it to Galaxus last week but because of Paléo and a sleep deprived state of being, I chose to go on Monday, when I had had time to recover.

It was amusing to go to Geneva, and go for a walk by the lake side before returning to the shop because when I arrived in front of the shop I saw a queue of people waiting. I continued ym walk and by the time I had walked around the square the queue had disappeared within. I got the ticket and then I waited a few minutes.

It is often funny when you go to an Apple Store or Galaxus and either return something, or drop it off to be repaired because it is relatively informal. You give them the case number, they look it up, you reset your device, and then you wait.

When I took the Apple watch for repair it took two to three days, if I remember correctly for them to replace it. With the Garmin Forerunner 570 it might take two to four weeks, which, with a fitness track, if you have just one, is a month of untracked training.

That wait is because there are two to three hops. Hop 1 is you taking it to Digitec, the second is from the Geneva store to the main warehouse, and from there to Garmin’s warehouses, to be looked over and fixed or replaced. That’s why it takes two weeks to a month.

Years ago I had the Apple Watch 4 and the screen had a hairline fracture after indoor climbing. My suunto devices never had any issues, despite outdoor climbing.

The defect with the 570 is the second defect I’ve had with a watch, after decades of ownership, and after owning Garmin, suunto, Apple, Casio and possibly two or three brands.

Hypothetically I could have snipped the plastic that was sticking out but the watch is still under warranty so it was worth handing it in for two to four weeks to get it “good as new”, or possibly “replaced”, although I doubt the latter.

Two weeks seems reasonable, but an entire month feels like a long time.

It’s amusing that I didn’t consider the two to four week wait.

Sad thing - there no more GPS forums as 10 years ago, also search is killed by AI.
Have no clue where to start debuging 🤔
