A Stay In The Lake District #5
Friar’s Crag & Strandshag Bay.
After our clockwise boat trip around Derwentwater, we had a break for lunch at Treeby’s Café on Lake Road. It’s a lovely eating place sited on the ground floor beneath the Treeby and Bolton Gallery, accessible either through the gallery or via the entrance on Lake Road.
We then returned to the lakeside to take a look at Friar’s Crag, a small promontory overlooking the lake and Strandshag Bay and giving distant views of the jaws of Borrowdale. You can read the rest of this post, and see the attached photographs of this beautiful area by using this link to reach the full post on Medium. Don’t worry if you’re not a member, the link will allow you to read the whole piece with no cost. And, who knows, perhaps the introduction to this rapidly developing site for writers will appeal to you!

Lake District: A Family Road Trip Through Ullswater, Kirkstone Pass & Ambleside
The Lake District National Park is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful parts of Northern England. I had already visited the area once with friends, so this time, taking my family there was almost a must. One of the advantages of visiting the same place more than once is that it never really feels like the same place. Different weather, different seasons and different routes can completely change the experience. Besides, there were still quite a few places I had not explored during my […] -
The #LakeDistrict hill Whitbarrow (which means white hill) is a limestone plateau which looks like an escapee from the Yorkshire Dales. It is relatively little known and a way of escaping the crowded main fells & sometimes bad weather. This #LakeDistrict walk follows a ridge to visit ‘The Dodds’: Stybarrow Dodd, Watson’s Dodd and Great Dodd. Also Clough Head, looking directly at Blencathra, across the valley. There is no climbing/scrambling or difficult terrain on this walk. Scafell Pike in the #LakeDistrict and the highest peak in England is on most hikers’ bucket lists. This route from Wasdale Head is probably the shortest. Fabulous views.
