I'm using #dismail as DNS-Server to block Ads and Tracking systemwide on my Android-phone. My router at home has the servers from #digitalcourage and #ffmuc as encrypted DNS-Servers configured.
But I always ask myself: Can I / we really trust "3rd party" DNS-providers? Theoretically they can log every single request and if you're using a service where you have an account (#Nextdns, '#adguard) they can also be tied to you personally.
Of course you can use the DNS from your provider, but most likely the traffic is not encrypted and often it's also filtered ("CUII" in Germany). -

Wracając do mojego filmu z setupem degoogle / deapple – chciałbym napisać o nim coś więcej.
Po wielu dniach testowania i szukania kompromisów – w końcu mam konfigurację, z którą żyję na co dzień. Staram się łączyć FOSS z realiami iOS. Nazywam to „pragmatycznym puryzmem”.

AI do prostych rzeczy: Duck.ai, do obliczeń i kodowania (bez danych osobowych) DeepSeek
Komunikacja z rodziną: Messenger (ale zablokowałem trackery Mety przez NextDNS)Co zrobiłem w iOS:
Odciąłem iCloud, usunąłem domyślne aplikacje (nie tylko schowałem), wyłączyłem Siri, Apple Intelligence, dostęp do lokalizacji dla aplikacji, śledzenie i spersonalizowane reklamy.Co myślicie? Co byście dorzucili albo zmienili? Chętnie poczytam uwagi.

@blindcoder Just looked up the #DNS ad blocking landscape last night.
Seems like #PiHole is slowly coming out of fashion and more seen as the "simple beginner's tool". #AdGuard is what most people seem to use nowadays. (That's also what's integrated into #GLiNet routers!) And the real geeks apparently use #Technitium (.NET!).
Some pay for #NextDNS.io as they don't want to host "such essential service" themselves. Also, you can use it from everywhere without the need for VPN tunnels or open ports into your home for DoH/DoT.
And #Blocky got honorary mentions from some masochists.

Update: Hier kam grad ein hilfreicher Hinweis rein, daß nextdns ggf. keine gute Idee ist, da ein US Konzern. Jetzt muss ich mich mal neu umsehen -> naw. teste ich #controld -> auch USA, also #pihole.

Ich habe in der Fritz!Box #Mullvad DNS Server und DoT aktiviert.
Jede Nacht beginnen Meldungen, dass die DoT Server nicht abgefragt werden können.Unter #iOS18.1 sind die Geräte offline. Unter #iOS17.X nicht. Auf den Geräten ist #NextDNS und #PrivateRelay aktiv.
Hatte jemand schon mal sowas? Bin ratlos.
Zumal die selbe Config vorher mit DNS Servern von NextDNS in der Box lief

Cool. Somehow #nextdns is not resolving the archive.is-family correctly anymore. There are even some issues opened on their help center without any reaction.
Maybe I should host my own #blocky now?

CW: Not Safe For Capitalism
The past few months, a personal tech changelog:
- Set up my own tiny #homelab server (a mini PC running Proxmox and a #RaspberryPi 4
- Learned #Docker, with help of #Portainer and many many hours on YouTube
- Learned #Proxmox (similar learning curve as Docker)
- Replaced #iCloud with #Nextcloud - Replaced iCloud Photos with #Immich
- Replaced #DuckduckGo with a self-hosted #SearXNG
- Organized all my documents with #PaperlessNGX
- Set up #HomeAssistant
- Set up #NGINX for reverse proxies to my own domain (another thing I learned)
- Couldn't have done any of it without #Tailscale or #NextDNS
- Attempted #OpenMediaVault but was having too many issues with permissions being reset
- Set up a #selfhosted #Ferdium to replace all the chat applications
- Set up #Vaultwarden though I'm still waiting for a better Bitwarden UI (mainly because I can't sort any of my passwords or do many of the things that I'm spoiled with by #1Password
- Set up #Navidrome but I need to add music at some point to replace #Spotify
- Set up a self-hosted #Netboot (.xyz) though I'm still figuring it out. Meanwhile I added various Netboot.xyz isos to my #Ventoy flash drive. Still learning about netbooting in general (it was already on my very long list of things to learn).
- Starting to use and rebuild my website with #Hugo but that's going to take more time.

Something in the #NextDNS tracker blocklist was added recently that is slowing down website access significantly. Remove this list brings everything back to normal.
Different sites nothing special to see in the protocol. Maybe it’s how the list gets processed now…
