There are good prices on flights from Nanaimo to Barcelona right now! (or Calgary) on Westjet for next summer!This is the lowest CO2/most direct option I can find to get to Spain. It's also the most affordable from the west coast of Canada!
They use a Dash-8 to Calgary, usually (looks like ours will be a 737, booo), and then a 787 to Barcelona. I don't understand why there are no flights direct from YVR.
The beginnings of a grand vacation to visit the boy in Europe, celebrate the girl graduating, and my 50th year around the sun (by seeing it partially disappear behind the moon from a beach in Morocco!)
Yes I waited until after I booked the ticket to say anything because there were only 10 cheaper seats ($850 econo-flex) one way.
Haven't booked the flight home yet... what if we don’t? :+)

I started reading this novella on the recommendation of a YouTuber, and it wasn't until just now that I noticed the domain name, and it was a fellow who was ALSO part of Kuro5hin Back In The Day. (I was "br284" over there.)
It's always great to see elements and connections from The Old Internet pop up in delightfully unexpected places.
(The novella is a gripping one about self-improving AI from the pre-LLM era.)

Huh… ICBC (the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia - BC's public auto-insurance corp) sent out an email explaining the rules and best practices for using a roundabout.
We're getting a new roundabout on an important intersection of Highway 4 in #PortAlberni. They're building it now at Hwy4 and Beaver Creek Road. Quite the project!
This is a handy primer/reminder on how to use roundabouts. Most people around here seem either clueless or terrified of them. lol

I am really REALLY fed up with people who don’t respect campfire bans!!! We were doing well this summer, no wildfires nearby. Then some idiot was probably having a smoke break. Or decided to go dirt biking in the dry brush. (hot exhaust) or, most likely, had a cigarette or started a campfire.
The highway is not affected, but BC Wildfire has also not yet gotten their full team out. We’ll see.

Working from home today due to scheduled highway closure which means I could do yardwork early when i would normally be commuting! Woot!
Thinned the apple trees! Slightly more apples on the Blushing Delight than the Northern Spy.
Both trees look healthy though it looks like aphids have invaded the Blushing Delight with the assistance of the local ant population.
We got more alt-grass seed to finish off the last part of the driveway before its' morning drink.

REALLY GOOD day helping out the #ndp today. Big sign wave on #bchwy4 in #portalberni. Gord Johns was there and then jetted off to other spots in the riding. 🏃
I helped out with some data entry, then knocked on doors in my neighbourhood.
Talked to some voters (pro and not so sure). All good conversations. Helped someone make a plan to vote.
It feels really good to help.
If the thought ever crossed your mind to help a campaign, do it! You won't regret it!

Sitting here in a lineup on #bchwy4 for some road work.
Our 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric just passed 200,000km this week! I got a snap of the odometer at palindrome 199991 which was satisfying. But a sudden snow storm/hail storm prevented me from capturing 200k and 200002 officially, but that's ok.
I just made its *first* appointment to have its brake pads replaced. Amazing longevity on these EVs for brakes. I really should have done it about 10k ago but still.
Great car. Age is starting to catch up a bit.
It needs the EV battery coolant flushed/replaced this year, and some small stuff is wearing:
The passenger side seat heater is on the fritz, and one of the door lock mechanisms is extra loud.
But all things considered, for the amount of kilometres in the past 5 years (really more like 3 due to pandemic), and the addition of the utility trailer, it's doing great! #EV #Kona #Hyundai #Electric #carlife

Apparently today was an eventful day for white Teslas in #portalberni 😆
This parking job in the very same very tight/busy parking lot earned this white Tesla a post on s**t parkers of #portalberni FB group today (not by me). 😂 #tesla #baddrivingAnd going back to our x-Can trip with the near exact same trailer, we never once blocked a travel lane while charging. 😝 This is a skill/courtesy issue. 😝 There isn’t even anything in the trailer, that tarp is going to blow away! 😂

tbh, there are lots of reasons you might run out. When we drove x-Canada a friend ended up in the same position with her Bolt on a tow truck between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg. But that was because of literal lightning ⚡️ hitting a crucial charging spot she had planned to use.
No lightning in the forecast here tho.... 😂

The pictures are a fail because I missed Atlas’ look of dread 😱 toward the Wall Monster. He really does not appreciate the sounds that emanate from the ductless heat pump register.
