  3. The Milky Way over West Cork

The Milky Way core stood almost vertical over the house. The night sky was so clear and dark I could see the brighter parts of the core and lots and lots of stars with my own eyes. This was a 20-second exposure, f/2.8, ISO 8000 using my Samyang 24mm prime....

  8. A very well-known nebula, cataloged by Messier as M16. I thought most of these stars were massive blue main-sequence stars, but it turned out they are not so big, though they are still bigger and brighter than our Sun.

  9. Things in the Universe that make you go Hmmmm!

Astronomers spot a new object. It appears to be a star as big as our solar system emitting 100 billion times more energy than any known star can physically produce?

Is this a "black hole star" MIT astronomers are asking .... Scientists indicate the most likely explanation for this strange new red dot is that it is a mashup of a black hole and a star. phys.org/news/2026-08-black-ho

  11. Possibly my favorite photo: an astrophotograph taken at Hotel Fazenda Ramon, in southeastern Minas Gerais, Brazil, around 2018.
I remember how much work it took to get just one photo that made everything worth it. I was learning about aperture, and also learning to be patient enough to stay completely still for long stretches of the night.
