  1. Things in the Universe that make you go Hmmmm!

Astronomers spot a new object. It appears to be a star as big as our solar system emitting 100 billion times more energy than any known star can physically produce?

Is this a "black hole star" MIT astronomers are asking .... Scientists indicate the most likely explanation for this strange new red dot is that it is a mashup of a black hole and a star. phys.org/news/2026-08-black-ho

  2. Ancient clash with 'Kraken' galaxy 12 billion years ago helped form Milky Way
    By Ellen Phiddian

A new study suggests one of the most significant clashes in the history of the Milky Way, dubbed the "Low-energy-Kraken-Heracles" merger, happened 12 billion years ago.

  3. Possibly my favorite photo: an astrophotograph taken at Hotel Fazenda Ramon, in southeastern Minas Gerais, Brazil, around 2018.
I remember how much work it took to get just one photo that made everything worth it. I was learning about aperture, and also learning to be patient enough to stay completely still for long stretches of the night.

  4. I spend lots of time trying to get visible #NightPhotography.
Weds last, was the peak of Perseids meteors.
I watched for 2 hours & saw only 4. Cloudy Thurs, but Friday, I saw 5-6, and even this morning, midnight to 2AM, I saw 3-4 more. I try to video them. Those are planes you see.

  6. An astronomer on what it’s really like to stargaze for a living.

How my understanding of the night sky was transformed by observing stars with a hi-tech telescope.

  7. Scientists create largest 2D map of the universe with 5.6 trillion pixels and nearly 4 billion cosmic objects
The new map, created by Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (#DESI) Legacy Imaging Surveys team, contains a staggering 5.6 trillion pixels and combines more than 263,000 #telescope exposures collected over more than a decade. Observations span visible and near-infrared wavelengths, providing an enormous portrait of #stars, galaxies and other cosmic phenomena. space.com/astronomy/scientists

  8. Zoom right in, it's the stars in the night sky this morning, hoping to get a lucky shot of the meteors I saw. Nope. Just star rotating.

  9. #Eclipse #SolarEclipse #News #UK #Earth #Sun #Star #Stars #Solar #Moon #SkyNews #Astronomy I hope everyone enjoyed the eclipse (if you managed to see it), but am I the only one who’s fed up seeing pics like this on the internet and news websites? I’m not an astronomer, but presumably if the sun was this size in relation to the onlookers they’d all be fried…
