So ACT is pushing to mimic UK erosion of quality and safety of NZ healthcare, by squeezing Kiwi pharmacists to do parts of GP jobs.
It may sound palatable to the naive, but pharnacist training is not GP training and in reality pressure incrementally increases to do inappropriate tasks, escalating patient risks.
Why might ACT be pushing for it? Well, ACT peddles anti-immigration sentiment and this deters overseas well-trained GPs from coming to save services in NZ. Getting GPs to NZ is a massive struggle at present.
So here come dubious alternatives ... which also happen to be pathways to ringfencing pharmacy and GP services so they are run mainly/only by big corporates, endlessly escalating obscene profits. Pharmacists who resist performing tasks beyond their training, for legitimate reasons, end up being sidelined from the profession and their contracts and services go to the corporates, profits often leaking to overseas. Smaller practices close, some merging under one corporate roof, meaning many patients have to travel further for services.
Just like with Farage's suggestions in the UK, it is likely that grotesque US corporate profiteers are secretly behind it. Be suspicious of the spin. It is a game of demolition.

Well, so, I started using Qobuz and I'm rather pleased with that decision. It just introduced me to Marlon Williams, a singer-songwriter from New Zealand. He reminds me of David Gray a bit, with spare arrangements, creative beats, and interesting, intelligent, heartfelt lyrics. And, he just came out with an album of songs entirely sung in te reo Māori.
Now, David Gray has nothing to do with New Zealand, except for the fact that when I went hiking around Lake Waikaremoana, the B&B I stayed in before and after my hiking trip was playing David Gray's "White Ladder" album on repeat. Nothing else. And that was my introduction to David Gray.
The takeaway is that Williams' music is a delight to me. Check out this track, which is slower than I typically enjoy but which I love: Soft Boys Make the Grade.

Mercredi, je suis partie troquer quelques boutures contre du temps de récolte. J'aime prendre le temps de faire ça, même si c'est à un moment où j'ai vraiment d'autres priorités.
2 pieds femelles et un mâle de plusieurs dizaines d'années qui donnent plusieurs centaines de kilos.
J'en ai profité pour faire le plein à la cave pour l'hiver.
Boutures de juin, j'en ai une seule qui a pris avec deux techniques différentes. Boutures de novembre piquées simplement en intérieur. La littérature dit que c'est en juillet-août que c'est le mieux.

Also, this title on sale at the Senckenberg stood out: “A Field Guide to the Bushcrickets, Wetas and Raspy Crickets of Tanzania and Kenya”. Wait, what? Wetas?? Aren’t they endemic to #NZ?
While true wētā are in NZ & nowhere else, apparently they DO have relatives living overseas (like many #Kiwis 😜).
There are close relatives in Australia: King/Raspy crickets (the Anostostomatidae family) & South/ East Africa: Parktown prawns (also Anostostomatidae family). Distant relatives live in the Americas: Camel/Cave crickets (Rhaphidophoridae family).
Who knew? They’re not known locally as wētā outside of NZ, but is “weta” borrowed from Māori?
