  1. "We opted to do a much less invovled weekend, basically just a bike camping trip vs a bikepacking trip. Sleeping outside, having a campfire, and just being away from the world is good enough sometimes."

  2. Gravel road perfection. The groads of Rensselaer County NY are phenomenal. Mostly low traffic class 1 gravel through rural areas dotted with farms. The terrain isn't too steep but you will get some short 20% climbs. It's punchy to say the least.

  3. Hype for the Future 141A: Hamilton County, New York

Introduction Hamilton County is a county located within—and the smallest county of—the State of New York, located within the Adirondack Mountains and entirely within Adirondack Park. The county seat, however small, is the community at Lake Pleasant, connected to the community of Speculator to the northeast along Route 8. Additional highways of significance within Hamilton County include portions of Routes 28 and 30; however, all portions of Hamilton County are considered especially […]

  8. Adirondack Park: Locations of Interest

Not quite within the Adirondack Park, Plattsburgh is a city in Northern New York largely associated with south of Montréal in culture and identity alike. The City of Plattsburgh is located at the mouth of the Saranac River into Lake Champlain. However, the Saranac Lakes and the Upper Saranac are located within the Adirondack Park, and Saranac Lake is a village and community located within the Park. Tupper Lake is further to the west, and Lake Placid is further to the east. But further south […]

  9. The North Country of New York

Within the North Country of the State of New York includes the regions of the Thousand Islands, the Adirondack Mountains, and relatively small and sparsely populated rural communities in between. While the majority of the population of the North Country region resides along or in fairly close proximity to US Highway 11, the Adirondack Park is nearly zero population in comparison to the general North Country area. However, population counts even within Adirondack Park tend to be higher in such […]

  10. Peakist v2.0 update (my peak bagging app) will have improved maps (much faster and topos), grid list tracking and a bunch of new lists. Heading up to #Maine for your 4,000 footer #hiking adventures. New #Catskill and #Adirondack lists too!

TestFlight is open to all right now. testflight.apple.com/join/f9AS

v1.0 in the App Store right now.

If you are a peak bagger check it out. If you have a favorite list I don't support yet let me know and I'll see about adding it.

  11. I built these Adirondack chairs from plans in Norm Abram’s Classics from The New Yankee Workshop book about 25 years ago. They’ve been out in the #pittsburgh weather all those years and needed a tuneup. A little sanding and screw tightening and they’re good as new plus a little patina. The redwood from Brookside lumber has held up pretty well all these years.

  12. Not my usual lane, but I'll dip my toe into #FungiFriday. We were visiting the #Adirondack Interpretive Center in #Newcomb, NY. It was September, after a wet summer, so #Fungi were found in abundance.

I've uploaded them to #iNaturalist for expert attention.

First up, this gilled #mushroom growing out of the trunk of a fallen hemlock, which was itself sprouting new growth.
