Might just win the west coast weather lottery today on our only trip to Pacific Rim NP this summer.

Only 14°C tho, maybe 18°C by the time we get there if we’re lucky? Bah. The water is like 8°C so the sun will feel warm regardless! 😆

(Contrary to what may be popular belief, beaches on the Pacific Northwest coast of the US and Canada are very often NOT sunny, especially when it is hot elsewhere, the normal mode is fog. It can be 32°C here in Port and 15 with fog on the beach. Best chance for sun is actually on a more temperate day! Like today!)

Thanks to mass protests and civil disobedience in the 90s, just 2 days ago, I was able to see and touch a 2000 year old Cedar tree on #MearseIslandBC ... It's quite a humbling and almost spiral experience to touch a living organism that was around when the #RomanEmpire was the super power of the world.
Trees that have been around that long are their own ecosystem and should all be protected wherever they stand.

Bravo to Tofino for being the first in Canada (again!) protecting our waterways and environment from the overuse and waste of plastics!

Thanks to their work, the same Surfrider group came to Port Alberni and worked with AV Transition Town Society to create Ocean Friendly Port Alberni which has been helping educate and cleanup the community for a number of years now.

I helped our MP Gord Johns (who was previously head of the Chamber of Commerce in Tofino) rally support for his national Plastic reduction strategy introduced back in 2018/19 which led to the controls on plastics today.

Tofino leading the way again!
