BC Hydro has announced it will add 8500 gigawatt hours per year from solar and wind over two years. They will come online by 2033 and boost the capacity by 13%. Most of it with better than 50% First Nations ownership.

Site C was over $10 Billion and produces 5100GWh annually.

Also by comparison, there is no Pipeline project and no First Nations have bought Transmountain.

BC Hydro is finally putting in place time-of-use rates. It only took 12 years after smart meters were installed.

- 11 pm - 7 am: 5 ¢/kWh discount (offpeak)
- 7 am - 4 pm: same price
- 4 pm - 9 pm: 5 ¢/kWh extra (peak)

This is a pretty small baby step, but hopefully, we'll see more comprehensive TOU rates in the future. This new rate might be useful to EV owners, but only if their evening consumption isn't too high.

The average #SingleFamily detached #home in #BritishColumbia uses 1,279 kilowatt-hours each month, according to #BCHydro .

The utility said the ##usage was driven by people trying to keep their homes warm. The #storm brought up to 30 centimetres of #snow to parts of #VancouverIsland & as much as 25 centimetres to the Lower Mainland, while blasting #NorthernBC with #dangerous temperatures as low as –40 C.
Roughly 7,000 people are still without power.
