  1. Fans Don’t Cool Rooms and 3 Other Myths About Home Energy Conservation

Shutterstock Want to spend less on energy? You’re not alone. Summer’s approach means air conditioning season is almost here, just in time for a global energy crisis. Naturally, we’re all looking for ways to lower our energy bills. There’s a lot of great advice out there, from ditching incandescent lights to getting a heat pump. But there’s also some energy-saving advice that is useless—and a few tips that actually waste energy.......Continue reading.. By: Justin […]

  6. Tip: you can reduce the heat your laptop/desktop computer generates by limiting its CPU frequency.

To restrict all cores to 800MHz on Linux, run one of these two commands as root:

    cpupower frequency-set -u 800MHz

    echo 800000 >/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq

    #heatwave #laptop #desktop #computers #downclocking #EnergyEfficiency #Linux #shell

  11. #worldintrovertday

    being an introvert for me means saving my energy for the people who deserve it & earn it;

people who are open-minded, curious, kind, community -driven, passionate, loving and mindful of their words & actions are my kind of ppl ❤️

  13. Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) — Operating Principle

A recuperator (heat recovery unit) transfers heat from exhaust air to incoming fresh air without mixing the two streams.

    ---

    How It Works

    Two airflows:

    Exhaust air (warm, from indoors)

    Supply air (cold, from outside)

They pass through a heat exchanger:

    separated by plates or channels

    no direct mixing

heat transfers through the material (conduction)

Result: → supply air is preheated
    → exhaust air is cooled
→ overall heat loss is reduced

    ---

    Types of Recuperators

    1. Plate Heat Exchanger

    aluminum or plastic plates

    efficiency: ~60–90%

    no moving parts

    2. Rotary (Wheel) Heat Exchanger

    rotating drum

    transfers heat and some moisture

    efficiency: up to ~85–90%

    3. Counterflow Heat Exchanger

air streams move in opposite directions

    highest efficiency: up to ~95%

    ---

    What Is Transferred

    heat (primary)

    sometimes moisture (in enthalpy units)

    ---

    Efficiency Example

    outside: 0°C

    indoor: +22°C

    after recovery: ~16–20°C

    ---

    Advantages

    reduced heating energy demand

continuous ventilation without major heat loss

    improved indoor air quality

    ---

    Limitations

frost formation in winter (needs bypass or preheater)

    filter maintenance required

    upfront cost

    ---

    Core Idea

A recuperator doesn’t generate heat — it recovers and reuses it.
