  1. A quotation from Horace

The Rash, the Lazy, Lover, none’s so wild,
But may be tame, and may be wisely mild,
If they consult true Vertue’s Rules with care,
And lend to good advice a patient ear.

    [Invidus, iracundus, iners, vinosus, amator,

Horace (65–8 BC) Roman poet, satirist, soldier, politician [Quintus Horatius Flaccus]
    Epistles [Epistularum, Letters], Book 1, ep. 1 “To Maecenas,” l. 38ff (1.1.38-40) (20 BC) [tr. Creech (1684)]

  7. A quotation from Euripides

NURSE: Terrible is the temperament of royalty,
       Who are rarely controlled, always imperious;
It is hard for them to give up their wrath.
To get used to living like everybody else
       Is better.

  16. CW: USPol - Trump, tariffs

As a consequence of these various #personality, #temperament, and #intellectual #deficits, Trump is, for a world leader, amazingly easy to #manipulate.

If you #butter him up, and suggest doing something will make him look good - well, there's a good chance he'll listen intently. He likes to listen to people telling him he's wonderful, and giving him easy ways to appear more wonderful. Much better than listening to people asking him to choose between tough or ugly choices on complicated subjects.

He's also got that tendency where he believes whatever the last person he spoke to told him. This is why people - remember those oligarchs who were literally in front-row seats at his inauguration? - want to be close to him, figuratively and literally. If you keep his #ear, you can keep him behind your needs, your ideas, your wants.

So, given all this, why the hell did he declare #economic #war on #Canada (and Mexico, and China, but I'm #Canadian) when it was:

    (a) obviously a bad idea for the US and the world #economy; there will be pain, and it will hurt him - price of eggs and all that
    (b) not something that was going to personally #profit him in any big way
    (c) not in the interests of his #billionaire oligarchs
    (d) not a primary plank in his campaign - at least not in this scorched-earth approach he's taken

    Why?

  17. `Suite for Microtonal Piano (1978) is a suite for specifically microtonally tuned piano(s) by Ben Johnston written in 1977 (see also just intonation). According to Bob Gilmore the piece, "take[s] extended just intonation well beyond the point reached by Harry Partch."`

Thus the n-limit tonality diamond..is an arrangement in diamond-shape of the set of rational numbers r, 1 ≤ r < 2, such that the odd part of both the numerator and the denominator of r, when reduced to lowest terms, is less than or equal to the fixed odd number n.`
