A quotation from Douglas Adams
He gazed keenly into the distance and looked as if he would quite like the wind to blow his hair back dramatically at that point, but the wind was busy fooling around with some leaves a little way off.
Douglas Adams (1952-2001) English author, humorist, screenwriter
Hitchhiker’s Guide No. 3, Life, the Universe, and Everything, ch. 2 (1982)

Oh, FFS. What now?
(That wasn't about anything in particular. It just seems to be perpetually appropriate these days, what with Trump and what's going on with the foreign and domestic policies in the United States.)

Circles to Circles #1. On Descriptive Geometry.
I am not a hoarder. I parted with school memorabilia long ago. When I started reading books on e-readers, the remaining books felt like an odd time capsule. They were not representing my reading self anymore. So, I got rid of most books, too. There was one exception: I still have my high school Descriptive Geometry books. "DG" was taught for the two last years of high school, in grade 7 and 8 (age 17 - 18). I remember it as pure delight - learning how to depict three-dimensional objects […]https://elkement.art/2025/05/16/circles-to-circles-1-on-descriptive-geometry/
Marquee at vet's office: GIVE THANKS FOR PETS & GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE
me: glad it says and, not in
spouse: pets in casserole, or casserole in pets?
me: I'd rather have casserole in pets than pets in casserole
him: green bean casserole is good either way
me: with pets in it?! ew, NOOOOOOOO!
him: they're eating the dogs! they're eating the cats!
me: oh good grief

#lifetheuniverseandeverything sent me for a major loop for the past year or so. And, being too old to go through the whole existential crisis 🤬 again and emerge even remotely sane, at one point I decided a change of focus was in order.

My book about Douglas Adams's life has arrived and how nice it is too.
Going to take this slowly rather than rush through, makes me a little sad he's not still around.

One of my friends turns 42 today. That’s a significant number to anyone who has read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.
#LifeTheUniverseAndEverything: Filled to the brim with Adam's signature sense of humour and nonlinear storytelling. The plot can be a little hard to parse at times but for the most part, it comes together.
The story is fun, if a little heavier than previous books. Ford felt like he underwent some serious character development between books, but we never got to explore what happened, just the result.
Trillian steals the show toward the end, I would've liked to see her more throughout.
I kind of think the me of five years ago would be horrified to see the me of now, but I think that's a really good thing. 😆

Among other things, our world suffers from an extreme lack of human authenticity. Integrity and vulnerability are exceedingly rare.

Writing novels truly is one of the things that make me feel life is worth living.
Sometimes I think my life is a series of rabbit holes and hobbit holes following each other in varying speeds of succession.
