Didn't Douglas Adams write about this? As I remember it, it was something like "anyone who wants the job of controlling everything is, by definition, the least suitable person to hold power over anyone". Or similar. π€

But if you must, Iβd start with the original BBC radio play of The Hitchhikerβs Guide to the Galaxy.

Today is a holiday in the Netherlands, but I wanted to get some work done. Two-step authenticator displayed this number. Do you think Life, the Universe and Everything are trying to tell me something? Excuse me while I go get my towel.

βThis must be Thursday,' said Arthur to himself, sinking low over his beer. 'I never could get the hang of Thursdays.β

I mean, there was a radio series, a TV series, books, at least two movies, a video game, and another radio series, all with slightly different story lines, so canon is a little tricky to define.
So the real question is, if I liked Adams' books, would I like the newer book?

Douglas Adams wrote 5 Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books. After his death, someone else wrote a 6th book.
In your opinion, is the 6th book canon and/or any good? Should I read it?

Good grief. I adored the books of course, and then in an early computer job, my buddy and I had the Infocom game of #THHGTTG, and we spent *hours* on it when we were supposed to be working π
One of my abiding memories of it was:
βArthur Dent: What happens if I press this button?
Ford Prefect: I wouldn't-
Arthur Dent: Oh.
Ford Prefect: What happened?
Arthur Dent: A sign lit up, saying 'Please do not press this button again.βIn the game, if you then hit the button a second time, you died immediately.

** The Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy
*** Yes, the name is awful enough to make a robot feel depressed. No worries, itβs just a working title, the petition calls for a united Europe - thatβs what matters. 5/5 -
"I'm particularly moved by this first one. If there were a label (which would of course hamper the ambiguity) it should perhaps be 'abandoned usefulness'. What's your take on this, Alice?"
Or of course the classic #THHGTTG with:
"I found some of the metaphysical imagery quite moving."
"Yes, and it certainly counter-points the surrealism of the underlying metaphor..." -

"It is our pleasure to open for you, and close again in the knowledge of a job well done" π

"Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the oceans".

Well we tried to show Young Frankenstein, but although I looked it up a week ago or something, it had been removed from all streaming and wasn't available tonight. So, we had to fall back on an alternative and we chose The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (2005) instead. A total success! Apparently Adams was involved in the scriptwriting but died before it was released. Really fun, and the casting of Mos Def / Yasiin Bey as Ford Prefect was excellent, as was all the casting really. #thhgttg

OK, not recommending for everyone(!) but some people might enjoy at least the intro to this π
