It's storytelling with capital letters, but I do appreciate the reference-fest in Stranger Things. It made me pick this one out of my bookshelf, it's the norwegian translation of A Wrinkle in Time that I read as a kid. It's printed in 1980, I guess I read it a year or two later. Marlene Dietrich & Konstantin Paustovsky
Just finished 'The Story of a Life' by Konstantin Paustovsky (1892-1968), Russian writer nominated 4 times for the Nobel Prize in Literature. He was of Zaporozhian, Turkish + Polish descent + raised mostly in Ukraine
In her autobiography, Marlene Dietrich devoted an entire chapter to the author inspired by his novel 'Telegram' :
"This novel made so great an impression on me that I could no more forget it than I could the name of the author, of whom I had never heard before"
In 1964, Dietrich arrived in the Soviet Union on a concert tour. As soon as she got off the plane she asked about Paustovsky. It’s hard to be surprised by the racial, gender, geographic, and many other blind spots within philosophy historically when it is literally a discipline that says things like ‘I can’t see how you can possibly get an ought from an is’, and ignores the billions of people doing it, with great ease, every single day. For a philosopher trained to reject the existence of the very table they are sitting at, or the mind they are using to do the rejecting, it’s just a short logical leap to denying the existence of entire countries, cultures, and peoples. For if it isn’t argued somewhere on my bookshelf, can it really have been argued at all?

I'd like to know more about the decision to commemorate the great Jewish philosopher in the city of his birth. At the time of the Civil War, Francoist rhetoric had an ugly antisemitic streak. What had changed by the sixties? Was it a purely local initiative?

@azonenberg I buy 6 figures from #DigiKey annually. Not a fan of the QFN but we use them. Recently made a commitment to Renesas parts that are QFN. We design and load our own boards. Not doing BGA.
That said I really miss the yellow TI logic datasheet books from the 70s. Those were like the Sears catalog for me back in the day. Must be a collectors thing now. Would love to have those on my bookshelf. Daydreaming...

This book was recommended by my therapist. I am so glad I found it. This author's life mirrors some of my own. I felt the heartbreak of breaking free from a broken family, and I felt the struggles of starting a higher education after almost no real schooling (thanks, mom). I had to earn my GED first, but close enough.
Honestly, it was so hard for me that it took a couple of years to read it. It has a special place on my bookshelf.

📚 I just finished By the Sea - a novel by Nobel Prize winning author Abdulrazak Gurnah, first published in 2001. It is the Zanzibar born writer's sixth novel and was longlisted for the Booker Prize.
By the Sea is a complex tale narrated by two men who have immigrated to Britain. As they reveal their individual stories the reader sees how their lives have been deeply and tragically connected. Not an easy read , but for me well worth the effort. 📚

Finished #reading the fascinating #novella #TheDaylighGate, #author #JeanetteWinterson's retelling of the #PendleWitchTrials of 1612 in England, when 12 men + women were charged with the murders of 10 people by the use of #witchcraft. Winterson reimagines this world adding passion + magic to the sad + tragic events of that time.

Since I started my #MSISE with SANS, I have taken some GREAT classes and learned so much, but THIS class is one of the top two I’ve been looking forward to the most (the other being FOR610/GREM planned for this summer)!
I am so excited to get started on #FOR508 - Advanced #IncidentResponse, #ThreatHunting, and #DigitalForensics- and prepare for my #GCFA this Spring!
Since Thanksgiving, I’ve also been working my way through a backlog of technical books I have, occasionally reference, but never dove into completely. I’m remedying that this year and made a promise to myself to sit down and read/work through my bookshelf. I can say that I’m already seeing the benefits of that effort, unlocking a few “a ha!” moments and further helping me refine my future professional plans.
When I took my first security class years ago, I immediately fell in love with the field. I knew I needed to do this with my career. I have found that feeling again in the last quarter as I spend more time studying #memoryanalysis and #reverseengineering. I took a really nontraditional path into these disciplines, and I have a lot of gaps in knowledge I’m constantly filling in, but I *love* learning this stuff.
Over 2/3 of the way through my masters…. The academic end is in sight, but the learning opportunities are infinite :)

(Interesting homework, apply the list to commercials/ads you see!) the How much of Plato have you read? Machiavelli (read his far more interesting Discourses)? I found echos of this theme in Plato's Republic where he talks about various types of people etc. There is a thread of elitism all through history. You might enjoy Jacques Ellul *Propaganda* and *Technological Society Ellul was well known.
Anything by Jason Stanley. Bernays considered the *father* of propaganda/PR. Which brings us to Ewen *A Social History of Spin* "First throughout the interview, Bernays expressed an unabashedly hierarchical view of society. Repeatedly he maintained that although most people respond to their world instinctively, without thought, there exist an "intelligent few" who have been charged with the responsibility of contemplating and influencing the tide of history." ibid

Shadows on the Hudson by Nobel Prize winning author Isaac Beshevis Singer, about a circle of Holocaust survivors establishing new lives in America after the trauma of war.
Summer by Pulitzer winning author Edith Wharton (Also nominated for the Nobel Prize 3 times) about a young woman's yearning to escape the constraints of her small town New England life.
I found both of these books fascinating ...

I've had #TheLeadersWeDeserved on my bookshelf for about a year, and it finally feels like the right time to dive into it.
