Racists: "How come some of the cast is colored? Colored people didn't exist back then!"
People who've actually read Homer's Odyssey: "How come this fails to plumb the depths of Homer's work? It's shallow and dumbed down!"
Everyone else: "Loved it!"
Me: "I won't pay money for that. Might watch part of it if I'm flying and there's nothing else to watch on the seat-back screen."

It's significant that ~all the reviewers who don't think Nolan's #Odyssey is the 2nd Coming are women: Stephanie Zacharek (Time), Emily Wilson (LRB). The latter's essay hews close to my own thoughts; Wilson knows the language & culture & is a Homer scholar.
The Return & Brother, Where Art Thou? were far more imaginative, nuanced & true to Homer's spirit. Equally relevant is Iphigenia by Mihalis Kakoyannis, part of a Eurypides trilogy.

On a related note, and purely from the promotional shots I've seen, casting Matt Damon in the lead is something akin to casting Kevin Costner as Wyatt Earp: we would prefer a Kurt Russell.

Most of the non-white actors – Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Himesh Patel, Corey Antonio Hawkins, Travis Scott – play versions of the Black best friend, whose only role in the drama is to provide aid to the white protagonist."

Cinema Alsos was packed full, sold out. Not surprising as it only cost €6 for a ticket.
The cicadas, hooting skops owls, warm night, greek subtitles, efficient and friendly bar, and a bright full moon overhead made the whole event even more enjoyable.

Tremendous fun! A big holywood blockbuster adaptation of homer's epic, where we follow Sad Damon around the aegean from woe to woe.
A lot of people and racists are complaining on line about the wooden dialogue, diversity, straying from the original and so on but I think if you can't enjoy the spectacle then you're a big lame square.

It's a movie, not a documentary. It's meant to entertain and perhaps pique interest. It's done that.
As for "There are no sex scenes, and all the food looks horrible.” 🙄
