Saw The Odyssey today & I enjoyed it, was moved in parts, put to sleep in others, but like this director's other works, I feel like connection to the lead character (Odysseus) is thin. Themes come through well & I love how they portray his disappointment in himself ultimately, but he still feels distant, flat, & I know it's not Matt Damon's performance. Everyone feels that way. Like the director's other movies, it was okay but I don't feel urged to watch it again. Is it just me?

Really enjoyed The Odyssey. Sure the movie took liberties but it's a great interpretation that made the story relevant to the contemporary world. Highly recommend it!

Nolan’s is some woman who runs a beach bar and is thinking of pivoting to psychotherapy."

I'm over the whole "how important women are in the Odyssey" debate, and I don't care whether Nolan made their role better or worse.
Honestly I don't mind that the Odyssey is about Odysseus. Duh.
What I do mind is that people can still cash in big on a 24536th Odyssey adaptation, instead of adapting any of the DOZENS of amazing epics that ARE about women.
(Publishers keep telling me underrated Greek myths are not marketable because "everyone wants the popular ones")

#Odyssey has gotten mixed reviews from calling it "woke" by MAGA reactionaries for its casting, "ridiculous" by Homer purists & another "masterpiece" by Nolan fanatics.
I just want to be entertained.
The movie was shot in IMAX, so I figured I should watch it that format to see it as Nolan untended it to be seen.
The length won't concern me as long as the movie is entertaining & engages me. If it does that, the time will pass quickly. If not, it will be slog.
We'll see . . .
