  1. Portland Bill, Dorset

    #WildflowerWednesday #BloomScrolling #Botany
Very late #WildflowerHour and #ByTheSea challenge but never mind

Two species growing together: Golden Samphire - Inula crithnoides (mostly in the centre) and Rock Samphire - Crithmum maritimum (mostly to the left and right). Although they share a common name and both are highly edible, they belong to different families: Daisy and Carrot, respectively.

Samphire = (French) St Pierre = St Peter = patron saint of fisherfolk

  2. Four from RSPB #Snettisham yesterday. Two inland species from near the car park, Caper Spurge (another new one for me) and the mandatory Fleabane. And two for the #ByTheSea challenge - Vipers Bugloss and Sea Mayweed. #WildflowerHour #Norfolk #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

  3. This was what I went to #Snettisham for yesterday - Carline Thistle on top of the embankment at the top of the beach. A bit past its best and not taken from very close because it was inside the bird-nesting area and I had to stay outside, but still a really berserk flower. #WildflowerHour #ByTheSea #Norfolk #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

  4. A classic #ByTheSea plant, from the seaward slop of the sea defences at #Snettisham. Long-horned Poppy with its very strange extremely long seed pods. #WildflowerHour #Norfolk #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography
