Have sat on several horses.
Pet peeve: "boost for scientific accuracy" - you aren't going to get anything that even slightly resembles a representative sample, even if you look at it through dark glasses after 6 beers.
I have previously said that any post containing a poll and asking for boosts to improve accuracy must have "DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN" as one of the poll answers, and I stick by that assertion.

@tg9541 I have the Kahneman on my bookshelf. 😀 Ah so you have seen "Institute for Propaganda Analysis" from which the 7 signs of propaganda came from. (Interesting homework, apply the list to commercials/ads you see!) the How much of Plato have you read? Machiavelli (read his far more interesting Discourses)? I found echos of this theme in Plato's Republic where he talks about various types of people etc. There is a thread of elitism all through history. You might enjoy Jacques Ellul *Propaganda* and *Technological Society Ellul was well known.
Anything by Jason Stanley. Bernays considered the *father* of propaganda/PR. Which brings us to Ewen *A Social History of Spin* "First throughout the interview, Bernays expressed an unabashedly hierarchical view of society. Repeatedly he maintained that although most people respond to their world instinctively, without thought, there exist an "intelligent few" who have been charged with the responsibility of contemplating and influencing the tide of history." ibid
This seems to echo Lippmann's view as well which Dewey was opposed to. Oddly Chomsky thought Dewey was as a bad as Lippmann. "Among those who participated actively and enthusiastically in Wilson's war

This fall term I will be on a research leave. I am temporarily (and voluntarily!) relieved of all my regular duties in order to spend time doing research — the research I would normally do in my free time, in the moments between meetings, on the weekends… Suddenly that is my main job; I’m not quite sure how I’ll respond once the term starts again, but I’ll do my best to manage.

I have been using #Goodreads for way too long. It is time for something different. Nice-to-haves would include an Android app that can scan barcodes and add to categories, Goodreads import, support for both #Dewey and #LibraryOfCongress systems, integration with #Calibre, and ability to keep my reading and library info private. I've seen #libib and #LibraryThing recommended. #BookWyrm too, though I'm looking more for personal categorization than social sharing. Suggestions? #AskFedi
