I've been transitioning my home computers from #Manjaro to #Solus #Linux because I noticed that Solus puts out weekly updates and Manjaro moves far more slowly.

I thought I'd give #BTRFS a try instead of #ext4 since on Manjaro, BTRFS has become the default and it worked well.

For some reason, it really didn't play well with Solus. I couldn't log into #Element at all and I had problems running #Cyberpunk2077 with #Heroic.

I reinstalled with ext4 and those problems went away.

I did, for some reason, have trouble installing Heroic from the repo and had to use #Flatpak instead, but I'm getting more comfortable with those. I let the computer redownload CPB2077 overnight and tried to run it this morning. It even remembered my progress, which was a fear.

I've uninstalled #Lutris and replaced it with #Heroic. What sucks though is that unlike Lutris and #Steam, Heroic doesn't bundle runtimes for older #Linux games, so now I have to run the Windows versions of those games through #Wine #Proton. And maybe it's just me, but running the Windows version of anything when there's already a Linux version irks me.

I tried using #Distrobox containers to run those games, but I must be doing something wrong 'cause that didn't work at all.

Windows is gone!

I finally got #Windows 11 nuked from my system, along with every other OS I had installed: #Bazzite & #CachyOS.

I've gone back to #EndeavourOS, as it's my preferred #Archlinux flavour.

I also took the time this morning to organise my storage drives, so now I have 3 drives:

1tb: EndeavourOS boot and root partitions installed.
4tb: EndeavourOS /home partition
4tb: Storage drive for everything else

9tb of drive space and one dedicated OS. Disk space should not be an issue any time soon.

Just re-installing #WorldOfWarcraft now, and I've got #Steam, #Heroic Launcher, #Faugus and #Lutris all installed.

Got #Bazaar installed for handling flatpaks (every gaming launcher above bar Steam), which I prefer these days for application installs, in an effort to keep my system tidy.

Very streamlined and bare-bones, and I'm only installing the applications I absolutely need.

Just hope #WoW runs ok...

Out from the ash and flames of the wildfires that scorched Canada’s Jasper National Park comes the story of a #heroic 18-year-old who #saved over a #dozen #people.
Working as a volunteer firefighter and kitchen aide at a lodge, #Colleen #Knull received an evacuation order on a Monday in late July.
Stepping outside she saw smoke rising up the mountainsides, and knew that there were people still camping in the area.
Alerting everyone at the lodge, she went out to gather the campers until 16 people were ready to evacuate.
Darkness was falling, and getting out of the area meant a 4-hour hike across treacherous terrain.
Knull used her knowledge of the area and tracking skills to help navigate the 16 people down the trail. The group used head torches and phone flashlights to see in the darkness.
🔶“I had previously rode up a horse up to that lodge on that same trail and throughout the way me and my employer, we had cut logs on the way up,” Knull told CTV News.
🔶“There were 67 logs, so there would be be 67 cut logs on the way down … So I used my tracking skills – following horse tracks, horse manure.”
“There was more intense smoke, my eyes were burning, there was ash falling constantly,” said Rebecca Tocher, a hiker who was in Knull’s group
“She was an amazing leader and was just making sure that everyone was working together.”
Incredibly, all 16 hikers made it out ahead of the fires and successfully evacuated in the back of Knull’s pickup truck.
