  1. The need for healthy #diets from sustainable food systems links to challenges like #climatechange, #biodiversity loss & #obesity. Governance for sustainable #foodsystems is centred on the idea of #nudges. Yet, as product #price is often the primary driver for consumers… (1/2) doi.org/10.1016/j.je...

  7. Some #medical #nudges that didn't work:

    Most (of a dozen) clinician-facing #ElectronicHealthRecord deprescribing tools didn't work? doi.org/10.1111/jgs.19609

  9. (2/x) #Nudges (subtly steering #behavior to desirable actions while maintaining freedom of choice, such as making plant-based food the default option) can increase uptake of #plant-based food. Messaging appeals to more reflective thinking but can also influence food choices: doi.org/10.1016/j.appet.2025.1

  10. 6 Types of Nudges Can Affect Your Choices

    psychologytoday.com/us/blog/st

"New research offers a helpful framework for categorising different types of nudges. Categories are based on six distinct cognitive mechanisms, through which a nudge might influence behaviour: (1) attention, (2) perception, (3) memory, (4) effort, (5) intrinsic motivation and (6) extrinsic motivation." -- #Eva_M_Krockow

  11. The #Monopoly experiment on #inequality was conducted in 2006, 10 years before the archetype of entitled cheating power-grabber #Trump got elected. The experiment shows how winners of a rigged game lose empathy & start believing in their own merit. The media extensively covered this experiment at the time; yet the #USA still blasted through, producing more egotistic maniacs like #ElonMusk. #Psy #nudges of #community #compassion do change this dynamic: this work is URGENT🚨 youtube.com/watch?v=bJ8Kq1wucs

  12. Nudging - a behavioral economics developed technique for ensuring compliance and solidifying target engagement. Getting tired of the constant text messages and emails? You’re being #Nudged in a calculated manner. The scientists have developed a comms model using digital tools to ensure you make that doc’s appointment, or don’t miss that sale. I’ll be posting more about this irritating trend in future toots. Stay tuned. #Nudge #Nudges #BehaviorialEconomics #compliance #ComplianceEngineering

  13. Good read for #BehavioralScience / #BehaviourChange folks...

To me, it is a welcome addition to the idea that, on its own, #BeSci can't save the world. #Nudges are fine but need to be in their right context.

This means balancing then against other levers of change, eg policy, legislation, restrictions etc.

  14. Great to hear Professor Cass Sunstein at the BEST Centre at the QUT Faculty of Business and Law, and quiz him about the use of graphic health warnings as a nudge in the US and Australia. #behaviouraleconomics #nudges #law #economics #health linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:l

  15. Next was an enjoyable discussion with Richard Thaler on choice architecture and #nudges at the #LSE. While this is a good overview of the underlying theory and what nudges can and can't do, Thaler's techno-solutionism is troubling, especially when he brings up the superiority of algorithms to people in the bail context (see, for example, propublica.org/article/how-we-) youtube.com/watch?v=FEkfqQAp6w (4/6) #psychology

  16. Been noticing a new trend in communications from your health care provider? Lots of texts, lots of email reminders? You’re being ‘nudged’. The advent of digital devices and communications/connectivity has led to the use of ‘nudges’ by the medical community - a derivative of behavioral economics. That led one doctor to write this: The Soft Tyranny of Modern Medicine #medicine #healthcare #doctors #behavioralecononomics #nudges compactmag.com/article/the-sof

  19. Is tipping getting out of control? apnews.com/article/tipping-fat
#Tipping #nudges are very successful. But they have begun to create social pressures that make it doubtful customers feel they are an improvement to their well-being. Their decision making #autonomy is hurt.

  20. #Nudges become an attractive mode of action when one has decided to ignore more structural shoves that influence societal inequality”

    When do "Nudges" Increase Welfare?

by Hunt Allcott, Daniel Cohen, William Morrison & Dmitry Taubinsky

They characterize the #welfare effects of #nudges using public finance sufficient statistic approaches.

My understanding of their results: nudges increase beneficial behaviors but also may decrease welfare, because they increase the variance of distortions.
