I keep seeing the same lifecycle over and over again.
Phase one: We’re revolutionaries. We’re different. We have principles. We have an idea.
Phase two: We just need to change a couple of tiny things... you understand, we do need to make some money.
Phase three: Psst... let’s quietly change this too. No need to announce it. They trust us.
Phase four: Let’s add a little of whatever the current trend is. Just enough to get more attention. Everyone else is doing it anyway.
Phase five: Hey, this monetisation thing actually works. And now that we’re here, we could monetise a little more. It would be silly not to.
