The small #white #Pieris #rapae (#Pieridae) is native to #Europe, Asia, and North Africa; it was introduced to #NorthAmerica and is considered a significant #pest in #vegetablecultivation. Adults identify nectar-rich #flowers using #olfactory and #visual cues. K. Arikawa et al. (2021) demonstrated that it orients itself based on #colorcontent rather than color intensity.

My favourite building site in #Bristol has been a bit quiet this summer - there's been actual work going on so hoardings were up and ground was being disturbed. It's back at rest now & while some species have vanished, this one has arrived new, probably from a local "wildflower" planting area.
