  1. Today’s #sciArtSeptember prompt is the colour azure. There is a malting barley variety called azure, but this is foxtail barley- though the cyanotype itself is azure! Foxtail barley (Hordeum jubatum) is a native grass also known as bobtail or squirreltail barley.

A cyanotype is an early photographic method, first used in 1842, which produces a cyan blue print used today for monochromatic art or blueprints.🧵1/2

  6. Red Aloe Vera Blooms

Vivid coral and red aloe flowers stand out against a softly textured garden filled with lavender, blue, green, yellow, and white.

  7. A gentle floral composition of cosmos flowers rendered in dreamy watercoloresque textures and soft pastel hues. Lavender, blush pink, cream, and sage tones create a calm botanical atmosphere inspired by peaceful garden mornings and romantic cottagecore aesthetics.

  8. Veil of Quiet Radiance

Photo by Laura L. Leatherwood, Pen & Ink Magic In Veil of Quiet Radiance, the familiar structure of a flower is transformed into something more intimate and atmospheric. It focuses on light, texture, and an up-close presence. By pairing a creative lens with an extension tube, the composition moves beyond simple magnification and into a realm where detail becomes abstraction. The viewer is invited study the image in detail. The petal fills the frame with a soft, enveloping gradient of pink […]

  9. Lemon balm leaves, wet cyanotype on watercolour paper, 11” x 14”

First experiment with wet cyanotype with water and vinegar added to photochemicals to begin developing while exposing. I think I need to do more and aim for more dramatic effects but I like this first try.
