💁🏻♀️ TIL: 🧠🐝 A University of #Colorado #Boulder team studied how #turbulence transforms odor signals as they travel.
Using #wind tunnels, #lasers, and real-world plume measurements, they identified three ways airflow filters, spreads, and generates odor frequencies. They argue these systematic changes encode distance and direction information #animals use for olfactory #navigation.

#Animals unable to #smell, #see, or #hear their food will sooner or later #starve.
However, researchers have now discovered using #Tyto #alba that #owls #retain their most important sense, #hearing, well into #oldage. According to the authors, owls are capable of #regenerating lost hair cells in the inner ear.© #StefanFWirth, 2026, Berlin

Stinken is een keuze
Goed verhaal
Ik vraag me al lang af wat de gevolgen zullen zijn van alle veranderingen die men laat uitvoeren op het lichaam:
~Verkleinen/vergroten lichaamsdelen
~Botox e.a. fillers etc
~overmatig e/o té jong gebruik van crèmes e.a producten (influencers?)
Kortom alles aan de buitenkant van het lijf dat niet van nature aanwezig ism.i. Ook hierin zie ik m'n constatering:

Today I learned that the word "chevron" can be used to name the "greater than" and "lesser than" symbols: > and <.
Also that "chevron" likely derives from the Latin word "capra." Which means "goat." As you might expect from terms like "Capricorn" (the "goat-horned" constellation).
But, uh, random question: have you ever stood next to a male goat?
Then you may understand why the Romans also extended "capra" to mean "unpleasant armpit smell."
Isn't language marvelous?

Welcome back sunshine 🌞. Thought you'd left Glasgow off your summer itinerary.
Unusual pleasant smell in the back court like honeysuckle. Fairly improves the normal whiffs you get putting out the rubbish in the bins. 👃🚮

💁🏻♀️ ICYMI: 👃💬 #English speakers often struggle to describe smells without naming their source.
#Languages like #Jahai and Cha'palaa have dedicated vocabularies for scent instead. Sociolinguist Dr. Erica Brozovsky discusses why we rely on shortcuts and associations rather than specific descriptors for all the #fragrances we notice.

The Times Of India continues its assault on its readers’ senses by featuring an advertisement for Daawat that *smells like Biriyani* – it’s cute at first, but then the house starts smelling like stale Biriyani. 🤢🤮

Scientists Unveil ‘Long Lost’ Map for #Smell
Odor receptors in nose are not distributed at random but organized in precise pattern, 2 studies reveal. It has been much harder to navigate the complex landscape of #nose. For years scientists believed receptors were distributed mostly at random. Researchers found each 1,100 different types of olfactory receptors in mouse nose occupied a distinct and predictable position, consistent from mouse to mouse.
