#Lakes that are part of a #riversystem, such as #TegelerSee in #Berlin, which is connected to the #Havel River, exhibit many of the #greenhousegas characteristics typical of inland waters. While their #sediments act as #carbonsinks and they serve as biodiversity hotspots, these lakes also function as #sources of greenhouse gases due to the emission of #CO2 and, in particular, #methane, harmful to the climate.
