#css #tools

Five best practices for preventing chaos in Tailwind CSS. Nina Torgunakova argues utility-first styling scales only on top of a design system and component architecture. Cut class noise with shorthands like py-4, define semantic tokens once in @theme or tailwind.config.js, and automate ordering with the official Prettier plugin. Expose fixed component variants instead of arbitrary classes through props. Tailwind 4 minifies automatically, 3 needs --minify. #css #tools

I'm really enjoying working with @logseq as a note taking and knowledge management tool.
Unfortunately I've created distinct graphs for different projects I'm involved in at work. But it seems quite heavy lifting to merge them together into one to allow for better cross-likability and task management across my 'work life'.
The new 'DB' version takes a bit of getting used to for me, but I can see the benefits over the previous 'OG' (markdown files) version.
If you haven't used it, yet, but are into stuff like #Obsidian, give it a shot. It's open source and fully cross-platform. #Logseq has a very low overhead of friction when working with it. Everything is a node, and it can all be linked with ease.

Out damned Spotify
I’ve used digital music services for a looooong time. It started with Apple iTunes back in the days of “buying” tracks and then getting screwed when their DRM got confused and blocked me from my own music. Then Amazon Music, which was DRM-free but just not very inspiring. I ultimately settled on Spotify as my default streaming service. It has been a great research tool for finding and auditioning era-specific music for plays and for creating unique pre-show music playlists. But the underlying ethics of Spotify are very troubling – lowest payment rate to artists, AI music slop as a way to avoid paying artists at all,a lack of actual interest in the customer, etc. It’s time to get out of there
I’m using the 30-day free trial of Quobuz. It is absolutely wonderful. The sound quality is amazing, which is one of their big selling points. A little research shows that they pay artists 4x the streaming rate of Spotify. There’s very little AI presence and they are very transparent about it. And there’s lots of human-based curation of playlists/suggestions.
Speaking of playlists, it’s the primary trap that streaming services use to lock in users. More specifically the siloing of playlists. These are really the investment we make as we curate our favorite music. The difficulty in duplicating or moving these playlists is a competitve tool to keep existing customers. Quobuz has thought this through and provides an excellent utility called Soundiiz to export and convert existing playlists (from Spotify for example) to a Quobuz playlist. I have several hundred playlists. The conversions can be batched into a single action – just push go. Results are about 95% complete and there’s a built-in utility to help find replacement music selections.
I’m officially done with Spotify. Out! Out I say.

Today was a great day for https://sciencefind.org, my wikipedia science article finding tool.
It reached a milestone of over 10,000 articles for the "any category" button!
That makes a total of 38 science categories to discover articles from.
The newest addition was the Sociological Theories Category page over here:

Dear people,
please consider carefully before starting any project.
Here, I started to go through my late father's, my late uncle's and my late grandfather's tool boxes.
FFS, WHY!?!
Why didn't I just leave them be in the shed as they've been for years and years!
5 hammers
A dozen of puukko knives
Dozens and dozens of screwdrivers
Dozens and dozens of wrenches
Dozens and dozens of things I don't know what they are.
FFS!

So many Youtube DIYers don't know about concrete vibrators and do shitty concrete pours or add excessive water to make it more "flowy".
Mine was €60 from Ali and has done a fantastic job so far. Especially with casting against the old foundation it really gets the concrete flowing into the gaps between the stones to lock them in place. I see the air bubbles pop out of them when getting the tip near one and the concrete level drops as it flows in.
Same for making sure it flows into the extended footing and fills it.
It'll also make sure the rebar and anchor bolts are completely surrounded, which is essential for them to grip well.
Here's an example of the effect:
