Letting my cherry tomatoes grow wild, they are carpeting the floor with delicious goodness. No pruning or trellising needed, they know what to do.
Originally from hardy volunteer cherry tomatoes from Ukraine, these are third generation in my Ontario food forest, that do well in no till polyculture settings.
All of this years seed comes from a single wildly successful plant from last year.
The second picture shows some that self trellised up some sunflower potatoes. And even survived some prodigeous pruning by the neighbours. Third photo shows ones that are self trellising up some sunflower potatoes.
All pretty amazing how in a relatively short period of time these cherry tomatoes managed to adapt from intensive management to a nearly wild way of being, while still being super productive. Been eating cherry tomatoes every day for weeks.
I may end up collecting some for seed and selling them on my Etsy store as cherry tomatoes hardy to zone 5, cause many volunteered this year as well, they are visible in the first picture.

Spaghetti met Gehakt, Prei en Courgette
Ingrediënten: spaghetti, 250 gram gehakt, 1/2 courgette, 1 prei, 1/2 bakje cherrytomaten, 1 pakje tomato fritto, pastakruiden, geraspte kaas, Aantal personen: 2 Kook de spaghetti beetgaar in kokend water. Bak 250 gram gehakt tot het rul is. Voeg 1/2 in blokjes gesneden courgette, 1 in ringen gesneden prei en 1/2 gesneden cherrytomaten toe. Bak tot de courgette en prei zacht is. Voeg 1 pakje tomato fritto en naar smaak pastakruiden toe. Warm het geheel goed door. Serveer met de pasta en geraspte kaas. Eet smakelijk!

Sushibowl met Krokante Kipschnitzel
Ingrediënten: 250 gram sushirijst, 350 ml water, 2 krokante kipschnitzels, komkommer, edamame boontjes uit blik, cherrytomaatjes, gefruite uitjes, sambasaus, Aantal personen: 2 Doe de sushirijst in 350 ml koud water. Zet de pan op het vuur. Wanneer het kookt doe je deksel op de pan. Laat het 10 minuten zachtjes koken. Blijf er wel bij, want de deksel gaat snel klepperen. Laat de sushirijst nog even staan met de deksel op de pan. Bak ondertussen 2 krokante kipschnitzels in de Airfryer. Zet de Airfryer aan op 180 graden voor 10 minuten. Snijd de kipschnitzels in reepjes. Snijd de komkommer in blokjes. Doe de sushirijst in een kom, doe er de komkommer, wat edamame boontjes en in kwarten gesneden cherrytomaatjes bij. Leg de reepjes kipschnitzels erbij. Strooi wat gefruite uitjes over de sushirijst. Doe er naar eigen smaak wat sambasaus bij. Eet smakelijk!

Tortellini in Tomatensaus met Courgette en Gehakt
Lekker makkelijk, alles uit één pan! Ik gebruikte mijn stoofpan, lekker groot en in die pan kan je tenminste ook iets bakken. Ingrediënten: 1 ui, 2 teentjes knoflook, 1 theelepel sambal, tijm, 200 gram gehakt, 1 courgette, Italiaanse kruiden, zout, 1 blikje tomatenpuree, 1/2 zakje tortellini, 500 ml gezeefde tomaat, water, cherrytomaatjes, geraspte kaas, Aantal personen: 3 Bak 1 gesnipperde ui met 2 fijngehakte teentjes knoflook, 1 theelepel sambal en wat tijm tot de ui zacht. Voeg 200 gram gehakt toe. Bak het gehakt bruin en rul. Voeg vervolgens 1 in blokjes gesneden courgette toe. Bak tot de courgette zacht is. Breng op smaak met Italiaanse kruiden en wat zout. Voeg een blikje tomatenpuree toe. Bak kort mee. Voeg 1/2 zakje tortellini, 500 ml gezeefde tomaat en zoveel water tot alles onder staat. Breng kort aan de kook. Zet de pan op laag vuur met de deksel er op. Laat het geheel zeker een half uurtje pruttelen. Voeg op het laatst een aantal gehalveerde tomaatjes toe. Laat dan ook de deksel van de pan zodat de saus kan indikken. Strooi er op je bord nog wat geraspte kaas over. Eet smakelijk!

Flatbreadbroodje met Kipshoarma
Vandaag was ik moe, brak en weet ik veel allemaal. Michel nam de kookhonneurs waar en maakte een broodje kipshoarma. Ingrediënten: 1 kipfilet, shoarmakruiden, 1 ui, flatbreadbroodjes, sla, komkommer, cherrytomaatjes, knoflooksaus, Aantal personen: 2 Snijd 1 kipfilet in blokjes. Kruid de kipfilet met shoarmakruiden. Bak de kipfilet met 1 ui tot de ui zacht is en de kipfilet bruin. Bak ondertussen de flatbreadbroodjes af in de Airfryer. Beleg de broodjes met sla, schijfjes komkommer en cherrytomaat. Verdeel de kip en ui er over en doe er knoflooksaus op. Eet smakelijk!

Randomly decided to head out to Cherrydale today. Happened to see that the Filipino store was open, so I stopped in to pick up lunch. A platter of dinuguan, rice, sotanghon and a side of sinigang na bangus came to a very reasonable $7.50
What I was not ready for was how good it felt to speak Tagalog, even briefly, even as badly as I speak the language now. It's hard to describe the feeling to someone that hasn't had to make a language transition.
