Wattles planted as seeds about two months ago. The seeds in the 15 pots on the left were blanched for 5 seconds and cooled. The 15 on the right were just soaked for that time in cold water. All planted in Yates native seeding mix with a teaspoon of fire ash. All have a minimum of four seeds per pot.
Result: no difference between the blanched and non blanched set. (That advice, while believable, is wrong.)
Anecdata: the fire ash helped germination. This set is much more successful than the "just Yates native seeding mix" set I tried last winter.
Another month or two indoors and then they'll go outside for the wallabies to eat!

Hydroponic spinach is going well after a lot of babying.
The tatsoi, poblanos, and pumpkins are doing good too.
A single musk melon is... problematic, which is why I direct sowed about a dozen the other day. Let's hope for at least one mate.

It's pouring rain outside. Forecast calls for more rains tomorrow. My rain barrels & buckets will be filled well. Sunshine returns on Wednesday.
I'll thinning out this large pot, full of mixed carrots & some self seeded tomatoes, on Wednesday morning before going to work. I wasn't expecting that many carrot seeds to germinate. I used a bag of 3 year old seeds to sow this pot.
I grow all my root vegetables in big pots for easier harvesting. All my yams & potatoes are growing out of large felted bags.
