hello, worl-- err.. FEDIVERSE! my first day!
2‑ish months ago, i was contemplating how much i do and DON’T know about cyber security, web dev, devops, etc. those thoughts led to a severe reality‑check / mid‑life‑crisis 😅 so i began a one‑man cyber‑crusade to reclaim my digital privacy, security, freedom and sovereignty, and how one protects and maintains all. along my travels mid‑february, et voila the fediverse! w00t w00t!

Filipina ghost mom never steers me wrong.
Whenever I need to spruce up some blah japanese takeout, I make this:
Tiny spoonlet garlic salt
Tiny spoonlet furukake (i love seaweed and sesame seeds)
A few grinds of black pepper (mom used ground white pepper)
A few shakes rice vinegar (the sharpness of the vinegar should slightly outweigh the soy sauce)
A few heavy shakes soy sauce
A few shakes of Tapatío (or anything that brings the heat -- you want a little bite -- I have also used a couple jalapeño slices)Mix it and then dump it (or sprinkle if you're civilized) over the blah dish. You *will* turn feral.
My mom's original was better but she used this as dipping sauce for everything.
In grad school I'd make a small jar and use it for lumpia, egg rolls, any kind of dumpling or picket full of meat.

Randomly decided to head out to Cherrydale today. Happened to see that the Filipino store was open, so I stopped in to pick up lunch. A platter of dinuguan, rice, sotanghon and a side of sinigang na bangus came to a very reasonable $7.50
What I was not ready for was how good it felt to speak Tagalog, even briefly, even as badly as I speak the language now. It's hard to describe the feeling to someone that hasn't had to make a language transition.

I'm not fluent in #tagalog but I'm trying to learn. One of the most difficult things is trying to find podcasts/tv shows to help with daily immersion. Anyone got good recommends?
The longer the podcast episodes the better. I'm more than happy to subscribe to a patreon but refuse to join Spotify - which most of them seem to be exclusives of.

My uncle Voltaire de Leon introduced me to the writing of Carlos Bulosan when I was younger. I read Bulosan's America is in the Heart and it put me on a path that I have been on ever since; finding my own place in this land that my family adopted and that adopted me.
I was not aware of this piece by Bulosan, a companion to the famous Norman Rockwell painting. His words still ring true today. The struggle of finding our place continues still.
