On Thursdays I work on my book with my editor at the #Rockridge Library. Those afternoons they happen to have “Read to a Dog” time, in which someone brings in a patient dog who sits and listens as the kids narrate their favorite book. Among the many reasons #libraries are the best.

@laureola and I happened upon a realtor open house yesterday, and it was a true honor to see these original fireplace-straddling windows from the inside.

Just watched a smash and grab in #Rockridge #Oakland. So fast! Light blue Accord with Hertz stickers and no front plate pulls up; guy with bat smashes window, guy jumps in target car and a grabs a backpack; jumps back in Accord; car peels out and makes a left on red to get off of College. Maybe 25 seconds total.

Omg!! East Bay Booksellers burnt down today!!

I *knew* I smelled something on fire when i got ready this morning! I just thought it was the smell of a wildfire somewhere.

It's, like, gutted. Down to the bricks. Nothing standing but a shell. It's amazing that nothing else burned down next to it.

Oh man. That was my bookstore.

Just voted in my local community council board election for candidates who advocate for more housing and inclusion, rather than those who push to maintain the exclusive status quo. Tonight's walk:

An off-leash Pom ran up on Benson to sniff his butt while we waited for a light to change and freaked him out? Got him excited? Hard to say. I still can't read whether he's playful or freaked out when another dog approaches him.

Most of the time, he's indifferent.

Unless you're a cat, crow, pigeon, or squirrel. And now owl. Oh, or a peacock. (Saw him, too, btw. Just sitting in someone's yard like a beautiful bird vase.)

We passed an apartment building, and as we walked past their open garage space, we encountered two women (they had a Bestie vibe) at a little cafe table, two chairs, a little striped blue rug, some music, and some chilled sparkling adult beverages. It was a whole thing. A Parisian bistro in a parking space.

This is amazing, I said as I walked by. They laughed. I loved that for them.

Just watched an attempted smash and grab on a red #tesla in #rockridge #oakland - car alarm went off, thief jumped into this getaway car, which immediately sped away on college ave. 9PM, multiple pedestrians around, don’t leave stuff in your car if you don’t want to deal with a broken window and stolen property.

I also wonder how public opinion changes over time in very specific locations. For example, like many parts of the US, my neighborhood (#Rockridge, #Oakland) was founded on blatant racism (https://www.flickr.com/gp/stewf/C8rKS3Vnm2), and while today it fancies itself a bastion of inclusiveness, it has only recently come to grips with its roots, and the lingering effects of this cancer in the form of Nimbyism. Much of this collective consciousness is illustrated by letters to the editor found in The Rockridge News.
