I slept in & Mom made some #CanhChuaCá 😊
It is a #Vietnamese #SourFishSoup. Mom's been making this traditional comfort dish since her childhood years. In South #Vietnam she used mostly catfish because that's the main river fish that her brothers caught, back in her village life times.Mom used cod for this - we don't get much catfish here. We love adding lots of #okra & #beansprouts. There's celery & pineapple underneath the bean sprouts, not visible.
This #SourSoup dish originated from the #MekongDelta & is a popular entree across #SouthVietnam. Canh Chua literally translates to sour soup - this is the #fish version. We have a chicken version that we make too.

"Chen Yaozuo was a #Teochew prime minister & grand tutor of the crown prince of the #SongDynasty (960–1279) in the 11th century. Coming from a family of officials, he was a rising star at the start of his career, until he bravely, or some might say foolishly, answered a call of Emperor Zhenzong for open criticisms by submitting a memorial that spelt out the ills of the times, including matters that no one else dared to speak about. As a result, Chen Yaozuo was banished & demoted to become an assistant prefect in the Teochew prefecture. This happened in 998, almost 180 years after Han Yu of the Tang dynasty suffered a similar fate."
"....Chen Yaozuo was more of a problem-solver than Han Yu, and he knew this. At the same time, he sensed the Teochew people’s deep admiration for his fellow Confucian. Cleverly capitalising on this, Chen Yaozuo erected a shrine in honour of Han Yu and he used it to commence his own programme to promote education among what was still a backward population. In pursuit of this goal, the Sichuan native also set up a Confucian temple and places of learning, while identifying and encouraging able families to send their children to schools.
Chen Yaozuo left Teochew after three years of devoted service to its people. He subsequently revealed in an inscription presented to a study room in Zhangpu (a county in Fujian adjacent to Teochew prefecture) that his time in Teo-yor was passed without major worries, despite it being enveloped in miasma."
"Chen Yaozuo’s heart remained with the place even many years after his departure. His poem below, “A note to Registrar Li Zi in Chaoyang” (送潮陽李孜主簿), illustrates this:

Today its customs are like Zou and Lu [i.e. the home countries of Mencius and Confucius]#Chinese #historians credit Han Yu for starting what we may call a #revolution through #literacy in Teochew. Yet the extent of Chen Yaozuo’s tireless contributions towards this cause can be seen by its fruits. Before his arrival, the Teochew prefecture produced only three men who attained the status of jinshi, the highest scholarly title awarded by the Chinese imperial court since the late 6th century. By the end of Song, the records show more than 170 jinshi from Teochew, of whom about a third came from Teo-yor.
Beyond scholarly titles, the creation of an educated class sparked a golden age in Teochew with accelerated advancements in agriculture and industry that ended its days as a backwater."

I really love the silhouette peak design by Dan Coe¹, which is itself inspired by Chaney Swiney’s Peakscapes posters. So I decided to try my hand at making a poster/map in a similar style and depicting the five peaks ⛰️ of the Central #Bicol region in the #Philippines 🇵🇭. I’ll see if I can further refine and polish this style because it looks really pretty.

Millions are expected to join the nationwide mobilization launched by a combination of central trade #unions and an united front of #farmers called the #SamyuktaKisanMorcha.
India’s major farmers and workers unions are coming together to launch a nationwide mobilization on Tuesday, November 26, to demand the government address the distress faced by the majority of the country’s population of farmers and workers.
A call for nationwide #protests was given by the united farmers front, Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and a joint platform of the Central Trade Unions earlier this month. Left-affiliated farmer’s organizations All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), All India Agricultural Workers Union (ALAWU), and Center for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), one of India’s largest trade union federations, are part of the call to mobilize.

2024 feels like dejavu to many folks who remember the 60s/70s #AntiWar #protests in USA that was a part of the international citizens' #GlobalResistance movements.
Opposition to the #VietnamWar was not limited to the United States. Throughout the world, people demonstrated their #resistance to the war, and in some cases offered their #solidarity with the #Vietnamese.

The #Education for #Nature – #Vietnam #ENV, one of the country’s #pioneering social organisations in #wildlife #conservation, has released a 2 minute video clip titled "Chim troi keu cuu" (wild birds cry out for help) to urge the #community to refrain from #WildBird consumption and join #protection efforts.
The clip exposes haunting and cruel moments of the widespread destruction of the feathered animals, giving only a glimpse of the acts prevalent in many localities nationwide.
Vietnam is among the 25 countries with the richest #diversity of wild #birds species globally. However, #poaching and #IllegalTrading pose serious threats to hundreds of #indigenous and #migratory bird species in the country. In localities such as #QuangNinh and #ThaiBinh in the north and #ThuaThien - #Hue in the central region, #poachers employ sophisticated methods including decoys and birdsong mimicking devices to lure the animals, followed by nets, traps, or guns for capture. This rampant hunting seriously jeopardises Vietnam's #biodiversity.

I'm not holding my breath for this #transportstrike by #PISTON and #Manibela #jeepney drivers and operators. The odds are just too stacked against them unfortunately. Remote classes have become a normal thing so schools can just do that with minimal disruption to education. The rest of the transport groups are pretty much #scabs and work for the government. Local governments have enough vehicles to offer free rides to commuters.
Perhaps we need a rethinking of current tactics. We may need to go a bit "dirty". :seija_coffee:
