Here's a uniface medallion, which I believe is an Icon of the (Pokrov) Intercession of the Theotokos (Virgin Mary, the Mother of God) holding an omophorion (veil) surrounded by angels.
Google suggests the text is in Church Slavonic and is a prayer for Mary's intercession, but the characters don't seem to match, so I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the text is please?

Решил попробовать перевести Doom Deluxe на русский язык. Пока что переведено не всё, но уже немало строк. строки в конце уровня, пушки, подсказки в меню, названия сложностей и их описания...
В общем, всего по чуть-чуть.

Happy Publication Day! My translation of "Damnatio Memoriae" by Chilean author I. A. Galdames is out today in Neon Dystopia!
This dark science fiction story explores memory and loss on Día de los Muertos in future under constant surveillance.

While most of the news coming about AI is almost universally bad, there are a few good things that AI is actually well suited for, such as transcription of ancient texts:
www.medievalists.net/2026/01/32000-medieval-manuscripts-transcribed-using-ai/
It's worth reading through the article to see how they trained the dataset very narrowly and optimized it for energy usage. Given the decreasing numbers of young scholars going into these disciplines, I have been excited to see how AI affects translation and transcription efforts. While I don't think AI should be used for really...much of anything at all, I think this particular use is a very good one.

Just got a reminder why I prefer translating novels instead of trying to catch new small translation jobs every day - I got one offered by an old client at 8am, next email at 8.30am cancelled because I did not answer yet.
Still searching for more nice authors who would like to publish their English novels in German language - most of my clients either ran out of novels to translate or retired. More info: https://textesusannedoering.wordpress.com/

Released Vertana 0.1.0—agentic #translation for #TypeScript/#JavaScript.
Instead of just passing text to an #LLM, it autonomously gathers context from linked pages and references to produce translations that actually understand what they're #translating.

A Note: Reitter Translates Marx as He Was
Translation is intellectual engineering: accuracy and consistency are key: choose fidelity. Reading Marx without apocalyptic filters imposed because who he was does not suit present-day purposes…

Breaking my social media silence to look for a #transgender #Japanese-to-English #translator who would be interested in #translating a rather famous #manga featuring transgender characters. I will help, but N1 or an equivalent level in #Japanese is a must. Writing experience is a big plus. Preference will be given to #Black, #Brown, or #Indigenous translators. Please send me a private message if you are interested or have questions. #BIPOC #translation

Do you know any #arabic , #spanish or #mandarin #translator who might be interested in translating https://storyseedlibrary.org/ , a #solarpunk #art and #writing site with lots of #Copyleft materials?
Sadly, there's no funding for the project, only bringing more human-made, intentional, optimistic #climate #futurism materials to new audiences!

I'm #translating #Scots fiction about sailing. This is made easier by a) Scots being full of Scandy words that I know, b) me knowing how to sail and what the Scandy sailing terminology is like.
I'm glad this isn't Welsh fiction about coal mining.

What are happy moments for you while learning a foreign #language? For me, there are two, which are more or less connected.
(1) The moment when you realise that you are no longer #translating in your head to and from your mother #tongue, but that you are thinking in the target language.
(2) The moment you realise that #native speakers who know you are learning their language no longer bother to speak slower and more clearly.

#AntiAmerican sentiment can manifest in the weirdest ways. For instance, I'm currently #translating a museum exhibition & while I often suggest including imperial measurements in parenthesis for the benefit of foreign (i.e., American) visitors, the project manager and I have basically decided... meh, let's not bother.
Petty? Probably. But it's another example of the little paper cuts I think Americans will find themselves increasingly encountering thanks to their two-year-old bully.

A new use for #ChatGPT: Interpreting ambiguous copy? There's this weird sentence in a document I'm #translating (gosh, that almost never happens, right? #IYKYK). So I plugged it into the #LLM & asked it to interpret the meaning (not #translate), which it did with typical confidence. Then I asked if there was anything unclear, & it correctly identified the ambiguity but also confirmed the original interpretation.
Interesting. I’ll continue testing with harder examples.

In #translating this exhibition on the Ursuline nuns, my research has led me to the wikipedia page for the great 18th-century #French painter Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, known above all as a portraitist (I've always had a fascination for portraiture). Her numerous self-portraits alone make me think she would be a cool friend to have. What a fascinating figure. Someone needs to write a historical-fiction novel based on her life!
Seriously, go look at her portraits! 🤯
