"#Writer, #critic, #cultural #commentator, #polyglot, and multilingual #translator #IlanStavans is very clear about his #Jewish heritage: His grandparents had been #Shtetl-dwellers in Eastern #Europe, in #Poland and the #Ukraine, and moved to #Mexico between 1919 and 1929 to flee #poverty, #antisemitism, and #pogroms. #Stavans was born in #MexicoCity in 1961 to an #Ashkenazi family.

This certitude differentiates Stavans from many of the characters in #ElIluminado, a #graphicnovel in #English and #Spanglish that Stavans co-#wrote with #illustrator and writer #SteveSheinkin. In the #book, some of the characters are crypto-#Jews and are not entirely sure of, but suspect or deny, their Jewish heritage.

El Iluminado was first published in 2012 by Basic #Books/Hachette. The University of #NewMexico Press republished it in March , because “the story is about #SantaFe and New Mexico, and is of this community,” says #UNM Press Director Stephen Hull."

I have been using an offline translator from F-Droid repository. One of the newly updated mobile banking App (Canara Bank) denied login saying that Slideloaded application "Translator" is unauthorized and risky. Forcing to uninstall that App to continue Mobile Banking!!

Is this related to Google's devil move of not allowing any apps out of Play Store?

It's incredibly handy for capturing thoughts on the go, conducting interviews, or making voice memos without worrying about language barriers. The app uses strictly locally running LLMs, and its ease of use makes it a standout choice for anyone needing offline transcription services.

I primarily use #WhisperAI for transcription and Piper for voice, but many other models are available as well.

Ok, evtl. sieht der Übersetzungsdienst hier Dinge, die mir bisher verborgen blieben. Ich meine.... also, wie Unterwäsche sieht das nun nicht aus. Aber evtl. hängen die beiden Herren im Bild ja einem neuen Wäsche-Trend an, von dem wir alle noch nichts wissen.
In jedem Falle sehe ich hier einem sehr großen Interpretationsspielraum, den sich der Übersetzungsdienst hier selbst gibt. Frei nach dem Motto "Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst!"
