The OA Switchboard plugin for OJS 3.5 is now available!
Once enabled, the plugin automatically sends public article metadata to relevant research funders and institutions when an article is published. The metadata is captured at the point of publication and shared with the institutions affiliated with the article’s authors and the funders supporting the underlying research.

Fee update: From January 2027, Crossref is reducing Content Registration fees for most record types and removing fees for back-year records entirely. Registering works published more than two years ago will be free for all members.

I've started getting Google Scholar alerts which announce work by legit academics but the titles click through to porn sites.
Does anyone know why that would be?
Some kind of SEO scam? Some kind of phishing? Something more targetted against the affected academics?

What are the true costs of academic publishing?
Well, while academic publisher DeGruyter charges £158 for the book “The Leopard in the Garden” my local bookshop and other bookshops charge £39 for exactly the same book (and £12 for the ebook, which DeGruyter costs at a cool £158 too). The same appears true for other books (e.g., Nothing Less Than Equality £181 at DeGruyter vs. £24 at bookshops). Maybe this is a licensing thing, but it just seems odd?
The large academic publishing companies argue that their hefty fees e.g., £10.000 to get a paper in Nature published as open access, are warranted by the infrastructure and editor service they provide. When one knows very little about publishing, those claims are hard to evaluate because there are few non-profit equivalents that are fully comparable. But here the comparison is for profit bookshop vs for profit publishers and the books are exactly the same.

My panel this morning at the European Association of Science Editors (@EASE) conference in Oslo was on the use of new tech in research integrity checks, alongside Caroline Sutton in person and Kim Eggleton and Jane Alfred online.
Our conversation was great (if I say so myself), helped by the chairing by Brian Cody. I thought it would be interesting to see how others here would answer Brian's questions:
1. What are the top research integrity concerns for scholarly publishers, and how much are they discipline-specific?
2. Technical checks can be overwhelming for journals. How to manage manuscript checklists from a process perspective?
3. How do publishers considering new automation / tools decide what's necessary vs nice to have?
4. Case studies of implementing tools.
5. Many tools only apply to English publications. What tools should non-English journals know about?
6. How can publishers and editors get involved in tool development?
7. What is the potential for AI to improve research integrity checks vs human oversight?
