A small reminder from the stubborn little human still sitting here translating things:

Translation is not a word-swapping exercise.

It is not:

> word → machine → other word → congratulations, you have a translation

Languages are weird little ecosystems. Meaning lives in context, tone, register, culture, implication, rhythm, ambiguity, and all the things that happen between the words.

A human translator notices that.

A human translator can look at a sentence and say:

“Technically, yes.
But nobody would actually say it like that.”

And then fix it.

We know when “interesting” means interesting, when it means *hmm*, and when it means *this is absolute fucking nonsense but I am being polite about it.

We know that a joke can die horribly in translation.
We know that politeness has different temperatures.
We know when a sentence needs to breathe.
We know that sometimes the correct translation is not the most literal one, but the one that makes a human reader understand exactly what the original human meant.

AI can generate language.

That is not the same thing as understanding it.

And when the words matter, “probably plausible” is a spectacularly bad quality standard.

So yes, I am still here.
Still translating.
Still obsessing over commas.
Still arguing with dictionaries.
Still refusing to replace a living profession with autocomplete wearing a tiny necktie.
