𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗴𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆. I've observed that the #polyglot trend/community is very centered on yt men from wealthy backgrounds, although it's not exclusive to them. But they center the energy, and the energy is one of competitive superiority, collecting languages like trophies, and exoticizing languages while ripping them from their human contexts.

Current state of the language salad: heard the word "\ɔʁ.ti.kyl.tyʁ\" in a French-dubbed documentary about gardens, and chuckled bemusedly because obviously they meant the science of growing fire nettle, the glorious ortieculture! 🌱

A #Japanese word that makes me smile each time I come across it, is 蛍光灯 (keikoutou). It means fluorescent lamp or light.
Let's break this down into the individual characters:
* 蛍: lightning bug, firefly
* 光: ray, light
* 灯: lamp, a lightSo, a fluorescent light is really a "lamp made of light by fireflies". So nice!
But it gets even better. The word also has a humorous (albeit dated) meaning:
When you use it to refer to a person, you indicate that they are a bit slow on the uptake and may take a while to understand things. That's because fluorescent lamps indeed take a while until "the light comes on". 💡

Look at the data from the Spring Institute and Paderborn experiments: children who studied Esperanto for 2 years and then French for 3 years spoke better French than those who studied French for all 5 years.

Gauging interest: if I offered intro-level Finnish lessons (over a video call), would there be takers for them?
There would be a lot of room for flexibility in how to do things/whether it would be one-on-one or group/etc. I am a highly proficient second-language speaker, which IMO makes me better suited to teach the language to A and B -level learners than a native speaker.
