Im Rechenzentrum in Darmstadt (DA) bekommt man 48 IPv4-Adressen und 0,5 Septillionen IPv6-Adressen, also 2048x der komplette IPv6-Adressraum.

Gemeint ist wahrscheinlich englisch "0.5 septillion", also 0,5 Quadrillion (entspricht /48). In Reinheim (RE) wäre es dementsprechend ein /44er-Block.

Also ich persönlich würde von einem Hoster, der sich so präsentiert, eher absehen und kein besonders gutes Englisch erwarten 🤔

So, I started studying #Swedish just a few weeks ago. Lots to learn before I can confidently speak it in daily interactions, but today I learned how gift can either mean "married" or "poison". It's also a lovely #FalseFriend.

To my arguably limited understanding, it seems like you really have to make sure the indefinite article (ett) gets through, otherwise you just have to hope that context holds true when it comes to expressing your stance on your current marriage's situation?

Jag är gift - I'm married
Jag är ett gift - I'm a poison
Jag är ett gift gift - I'm a married poison (not sure if grammatically correct!)
Je suis un poisson - I'm a fish (French)

I am #translating an exhibition on witches and have (fortunately) discovered a new (to me) false friend: conjure/conjurer.

In English, conjure means to evoke or make appear.

In French, conjurer means to cast out or ward off.

So glad I caught this one. A few French sentences make a lot more sense to me now! Just goes to show that if you don't understand the source text, don't simply assume it was poorly written (even though that's so often the case!) 😬

Spanish verbs keep triping me up in subtle ways.

In Spanish «tú eres» means «thou art / you are» but in Portuguese «tu eres» doesn't exist but it sound a lot like «tu eras» which means «thou wast / you were».

A similar thing happens with «el dice» which means «he says» but in Portuguese «ele disse» means «he said».

So yeah, the present indicative tense forms of Spanish verbs sound like the past indicative tense verb forms in Portuguese.

If anyone is curious, «thou art / you are» and «he says» translate to Portuguese as «tu és» and «ele diz», respectively.
