Yeah I'm mostly on the side of "the more pressure, the less energy I have".

In general, I work better when there's no time pressure on anything and I can just go where my sense of energy leads, towards outcomes which feel intrinsically attractive in that moment. Then I can hyperfocus, or I can bounce from thing to thing, and either way I get loads done and enjoy it.

Feeling overloaded is 100% detrimental, especially if the overload-mix includes tasks that are kind of "looming over me" because they'll be difficult in some way.

But sometimes having _one_ specific deadline can help me to push away all the various other things, "clear the decks", and put my attention on that one particular thing. Then it functions like a kind of focus point, and a justification for ignoring the rival possibilities for a while. So that's the context in which I don't mind a deadline.
