    Hello there! 🌸

I've finally gathered all my ranting about the fascist demand for “apolitical art” into one essay.

    You can find it here:

Go on. Give it a read. 💜

And then go make some art. Write. Sing. Paint. Dance. Speak. Be inconvenient. Be political. Be free.

Because freedom of expression isn't something fascists get to switch off when they don't like what we're saying.

Fight for the freedom to create.
Fight against the fascist dream of silencing us all.

And make plenty of noise. 🏳️‍🌈✊

  6. 🚨 We all knew this would be coming... Don't like polluters? TOUGH SHIT! You're under arrest!!!

#FBI #Counterterrorism Agents Spent Weeks Seeking a #ClimateActivist — Then Showed Up at His Door

The visit suggests a possible FBI probe into #ExtinctionRebellionNYC as the Trump administration increases surveillance of #activist groups.

    Jacqueline Sweet, February 12 2026

Excerpt: "Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, at least one of whom works on counterterrorism, went to the home of a former member of a #ClimateActivism group for questioning last week, potentially signaling a new escalation in the Trump administration’s promise to criminalize #nonprofits and #ActivistGroups as #DomesticTerrorists.

"Two FBI agents, one from New York’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, told a former member of Extinction Rebellion NYC they wanted to ask him about the group at his home upstate on Friday, an attorney for the group told The Intercept. The visit followed a prior attempt to reach him at his old address.

"The FBI’s apparent probe of Extinction Rebellion NYC comes as the Justice Department ramps up its surveillance of activists protesting immigration enforcement and the Trump administration creates secret lists of domestic enemies under Trump’s National Security Presidential #Memorandum7, or #NSPM7.

" 'I believe this to be a significant escalation of the criminal legal system against #XR and find it very troubling,' said Ron Kuby, the Extinction Rebellion attorney. 'This is usually the way we find out an actual investigation is underway and is often followed by other visits and other actions.'

"The former Extinction Rebellion member, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear for his safety, said that the visit came after a phone call in January from a special agent that he assumed was a scam.

" 'I was skeptical the phone call was really from the FBI, but after I declined to speak with the agent, she said that she was standing outside my door,' he said. She was actually at the activist’s former address, which he said made him additionally dubious. But last week, when the agents showed up at his current address, he said he saw the agent’s business card through his door."

  7. I needed a pep talk from my brother today. We live in Tennessee...a state that has self-knighted as the "blueprint" for ICE/DHS/CBP (and we have actual neo-nazi training camps here). After I hung up, I heard Kamala Harris' chant, "When we fight, WE WIN!" Minneapolis, Portland, LA, Memphis. They are fighting. Fighting for them and fighting for America. They have already won by virtue of resisting fascism.

  8. A noise protest at #Home2Suites by #Hilton resulted in multiple #ICENazis scurrying to checkout, graffiti on the hotel, smashed front window, broken automatic doors, a solo - seemingly drunk/self-injured ICENazi (he was bleeding from nose/hands & no one had touched him) trying to scare off protestors before a ton of his backup arrived & threw a lot of smoke bombs/fired tear gas. Once they left, a few protestors went back in front of the hotel & made noise again, joined by many cars - all honking their horns. Then MPD & SWAT arrived to clear out everyone remaining.

The protest worked to get ICENazis to leave the hotel & not have a peaceful night. Private property damage is covered by corporate insurance. Capital is of lesser value than human lives - for anyone who judges vandalism from protestors. You can repair material damages. You can't bring murdered people back to life & that damage is irreparable.

  13. PROTECT THE #PROTEST
    THE #SOLIDARITY WAVE

What to do if someone does something you don't like:

    1. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS
We're all here for the same cause. There is no legal requirement to alert police to potentially illegal activity.

    2. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE
If someone’s behavior raises your risk level beyond what you're comfortable with, leave the situation and head to a safer space.

    3. ASK FOR SUPPORT .
If someone’s behavior raises your risk level and you're unable to leave, ask for support from the people around you or see if the person is able to accommodate your needs.

    4. RESPECT DIVERSE TACTICS
Engage with curiosity about people who do things differently from you. What motivates them to be courageous in the face of police violence?

    5. KEEP COMRADES INVISIBLE
If someone needs to blend into the crowd quickly, help them. Learn about de-arresting and support people who are being targeted. Together, we can be powerful, strategic, and united.

Do police in your city use #TearGas or #RubberBullets? Repression tactics from Seattle to Chicago, plus how to prepare.

    by Akela Lacy
    June 14 2025, 7:00 a.m.

Excerpt: “The key really no matter where you are or what you’re doing is situational awareness,” said Mickey H. Osterreicher, general counsel to the National Press Photographers Association. “When you start to see officers on bikes encircling you, you need to have probably thought of this before, but certainly at that point, look for a place to exit.”

  15. WTAF! ‘#NoKings’ protest organizer calls #Texas #NationalGuard deployment an overreaction by Governor

    by Cora Neas
    Wed, June 11, 2025

AUSTIN (KXAN) — "A protest planned to occur at the Texas Capitol Saturday comes after Texas Governor #GregAbbott’s deployment of the state’s National Guard to #AustinTX and other Texas cities following a Monday night protest in the state’s capital city.

    [...]

" 'Soldiers are on standby in areas where mass #demonstrations are planned in case they are needed,' reads part of Mahaleris’s statement. 'Texas will not tolerate the lawlessness we have seen in Los Angeles. Anyone engaging in acts of violence or damaging property will be swiftly held accountable to the full extent of the law.'

"The Monday night protest, organized by the Party for #Socialism and #Liberation, was held to show solidarity with #protesters in #LosAngeles.

"Saturday’s protest, ' #NoKings / #KickOutTheClowns,' is part of a nationwide action against a #MilitaryParade in #WashingtonDC, also on Saturday. The Austin rally is organized by Hands Off Central Texas (#HOCTX), a coalition of liberal activist groups such as #50501, #IndivisibleAustin, #IndivisibleRosedale, #ThirdAct Texas and #ResistAustin.

"#HandsOff Central Texas President Sophia Mirto said that the rally will feature speeches by activists and locally elected politicians, as well as performances."

  16. About 500 #NationalGuard troops in LA are trained to accompany agents on immigration raids

Nearly 5,000 military personnel have been mobilized in the Los Angeles area in response to immigration raid protests. A commander says National Guard troops and Marines will protect #ICE agents and federal buildings, and will be allowed to 'temporarily' detain people.

    By LOLITA C. BALDOR
    Updated 7:41 PM EDT, June 11, 2025

WASHINGTON (AP) — "About 500 of the National Guard troops deployed to the Los Angeles protests have been trained to accompany agents on immigration operations, the commander in charge said Wednesday. And while some troops have already gone on such missions, he said it’s too early to say if that will continue even after the protests die down.

"Maj. Gen. Scott Sherman, speaking in an interview with The Associated Press and ABC, also warned that he expects the protest situation will escalate. 'We are expecting a ramp up,' he said, noting that protests across the nation are being planned and discussed now. 'I’m focused right here in LA, what’s going on right here. But you know, I think we’re, we’re very concerned.'

"Sherman, commander of Task Force 51 that is overseeing the more than 4,000 Guard troops and 700 #Marines deployed, initially said that National Guard troops had already temporarily detained some civilians. He later said he was incorrect, and that he had based his comments on photos and footage he had seen that turned out to not be a representation of Guard members in Los Angeles.

"He said that as of Wednesday, none of the troops has detained a protester. But he said they have gone through days of training and are prepared to do so if needed. Close to 2,000 of the Guard members have either been out protecting federal facilities or personnel already or are ready to move out, and the Marines will wrap up their training and are expected to be on the streets of Los Angeles as early as Thursday evening, Sherman said.

"The decision to have the soldiers provide security on the raids moves troops closer than ever before to carrying out law enforcement actions such as #deportations as President Donald Trump has promised as part of his immigration crackdown.

"#California Gov. #GavinNewsom has called the troop deployment a 'serious breach of state #sovereignty' and a #PowerGrab by Trump, and has gone to court to stop it. The president has cited a legal provision that allows him to mobilize federal service members when there is 'a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States.'

"Under the Posse Comitatus Act, active-duty forces are prohibited by law from conducting law enforcement. Sherman said all of the Guard troops and Marines are going through several days of training on #CivilUnrest and #CrowdControl so they know exactly what they can and can’t do." [Um, yeah... Sure...]

  24. #Resist! Four Maine college presidents sign national letter decrying Trump education 'overreach'

Riley Board, Portland Press Herald, Maine
    Tue, April 22, 2025

"Four Maine higher education leaders have signed on to a letter accusing the Trump administration of 'unprecedented government overreach and political interference.'

"Safa Zaki of #BowdoinCollege, Garry Jenkins of #BatesCollege, David Greene of #ColbyCollege and James Herbert of the #UniversityOfNewEngland all added their names to the letter, published Tuesday by the American Association of Colleges and Universities. More than 230 presidents of colleges, universities and scholarly societies throughout the country have signed so far.

" 'We are open to constructive reform and do not oppose legitimate government oversight,' the letter reads. 'However, we must oppose undue government intrusion in the lives of those who learn, live and work on our campuses. We will always seek effective and fair financial practices, but we must reject the coercive use of public research funding.'

"Though the letter primarily represents private institutions, leaders from a handful of state colleges and universities signed on, including University of Massachusetts Amherst Chancellor Javier Reyes and Eastern Connecticut State University President Karim Ismaili. A spokesperson for the University of Maine system declined to comment.

"In recent months, the Trump administration has pulled or threatened to pull federal funding from higher education institutions that don't comply with his agenda on #StudentProtesters, admissions practices and #TransgenderAthlete policies.

"The administration has also revoked the visas of hundreds of international students. On Friday, the American Civil Liberties Union [#ACLU] of Maine filed a class-action lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security [#DHS] and other agencies behind the visa revocations, asking that a judge restore the visas of any New England students who have had them wrongfully removed, and protecting future students from the same actions."

  25. #PineAndRoses #NewEngland #DSA protests #ICEDetentions

Posted by #MaineDSA and Wes Pelletier | Mar 27, 2025

"Last week, the #MaineCoalitionForPalestine organized a protest of ICE detention of #ColumbiaUniversity student leader #MahmoudKhalil. Since then, ICE has operated as the #Trump Administration’s #SecretPolice, abducting a growing number of immigrant organizers for exercising their right to #FreeSpeech and protesting the U.S.-sponsored #genocide in #Gaza. The list includes #RumeysaOzturk, #YunseoChung, #BadarKhunSuri, #MomodouTaal, #RanjaniSrinivasan, as well as #farmworker organizer #AlfredoJuarezZerefino. Maine DSA member and Portland District 2 City Councilmember #WesPelletier spoke at the Portland Mahmoud Khalil protest and DSA chapters around New England issued a joint declaration reprinted below against the ICE abduction of Rumeysa Ozturk.

New England DSA chapters demand freedom for Rumeysa Ozturk

"Yesterday, ICE agents abducted Rumeysa Ozturk, a graduate student and pro-Palestine activist at Tufts.

"The kidnapping comes after almost 400 #ICEArrests in Massachusetts, as well as the #doxxing of Ozturk by the pro-Isreal website #CanaryMission.

"ICE’s abductions—of Ozturk, Khalil, and many others—is an unprecedented attack on basic #CivilRights in the name of U.S. Empire, whether those detained are peaceful #PoliticalActivists or undocumented #migrants seeking safety, jobs, and a better life.

"We must stand up against this brazen attack on #Palestine, #FreeSpeech, and the #RightToProtest.

"We must stand in solidarity with our neighbors and communities under attack from Trump, ICE, and all agents of #imperialism.

"Governor Healey, the courts, and the Democratic Party establishment are not coming to save us—we must mobilize, agitate, and organize in our workplaces and campuses to defend working-class rights.

  26. #Maine: #HoultonME rally against #Trump administration was one of 16 in Maine

by Kathleen Phalen Tomaselli, March 3, 2025

HOULTON, Maine — "Fifty-two people stood together in the rain on Saturday afternoon in downtown Houlton, wearing black armbands and carrying signs calling for the restoration of the nation.

"The rally was one of more than a dozen around the state on Saturday against the new administration of President Donald #Trump. Co-organizer Marilyn Roper said it was meant to draw attention to what demonstrators see as the recent loss of so many of the nation’s rights and the dismantling of government agencies. They also urged support for #Ukraine in its war against #Russia.

"Also over the weekend, demonstrators gathered at the State House in Augusta to protest the Maine Principal’s Association’s rules allowing transgender student athletes to participate in sports divisions that align with their actual gender, which have sparked the ongoing threats by the Trump administration to cut Maine’s federal funding.

"As the group of Houlton-area residents stood in silence displaying messages of restoration, passing drivers honked in solidarity. They specifically called for the restoration of law and order, decency, democracy, and the U.S. Agency for International Development [#USAID], among other things.

"During one stretch of time, the only vocal opposition came from a man driving a black pick-up truck, who yelled his disapproval out the window as he drove by.

"Roper is part of a statewide peace and justice group that co-organized the March 1 rallies in 16 communities, with one each in every Maine county. Some of the other demonstrations were in #BangorME, #SkowheganME, #CalaisME, #Damariscotta and #PortlandME.

"Several participating in the Houlton rally expressed their disgust and shame regarding Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance’s berating of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office on Friday.

"Others bemoaned what they see as so many losses since the January inauguration.

"Houlton resident Bertrand Laurence said that even people who choose to not be involved are making a political statement.

"A core group of local organizers has been meeting regularly over the years to plan this and other activities related to issues of #SocialJustice and democracy.

"Following Saturday’s one-hour rally, organizers met at the #UnitarianUniversalist Church to plan future actions, including an upcoming postcard mailing campaign to the White House, said Roper.

"The postcards, slated for a March 15 mailing, will be addressed directly to Trump as a public expression of opposition to his behaviors and policies.

"'May the rallies in Maine and across the country bring about some halt in the destruction of our democracy and restoration of so much lost,' Roper said."

  27. #Maine: #WatervilleME protesters urge passersby to ‘#DumpTrump

More than 50 people gathered Thursday morning on the sidewalk in downtown Waterville to protest President #Trump and #ElonMusk.

by Amy Calder, February 27, 2025

WATERVILLE — "More than 50 people stood in a snowstorm downtown Thursday, protesting President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s efforts to dismantle government programs and cut the federal workforce.

"The 'Dump Trump' rally was organized by #ElizabethLeonard, an author, historian, and professor emeritus of history at #ColbyCollege, who on Feb. 5 led a rally at a #Tesla charging station less than a mile away.

"News of that protest went viral, prompting dozens of similar protests across the country at Telsa dealerships and charging stations. A Morning Sentinel story about that rally was featured on at least one national television show and in the Boston Globe as part of a subsequent interview with Leonard.

"She said she never thought the Tesla event would have such an impact.
'It’s just proof of the fact that a small group of people can make a huge difference, or you could say, where a butterfly flaps its wings, a breeze goes around the world,' Leonard, 68, said. 'We didn’t expect so many people to pay attention.'

"It was a chilly 29 degrees on Main Street Thursday as motorists beeped their horns in support of the protesters. Someone in a white car yelled 'Go home!' to the group.

"Some protesters held trash bags with signs attached that read 'Dump Trump.' Leonard said she agrees with scholars who say the world is re-living history as it witnesses #fascists rise to power and destroy #democratic governments.

"'This is all how it happens,' she said."

    [...]

"Linda Woods, 73, and Beth Schiller, 68, both of Waterville, protested at the Tesla charging station rally Feb. 5 and were on the street again Thursday. They praised Leonard for starting the #TeslaProtest, which was widely mimicked.

"'I’m just sad that we have to do this,' Woods said. 'I’m tired of standing in the cold.'

"Schiller said she is horrified that people have been #brainwashed into believing the government is 'bad.'

"'They’re going to miss all the good things that government does for all of us when it’s been burned to the ground from #Project2025,' she said, referring to a conservative plan for restructuring government.

"Leonard said she is trying to contact #FederalWorkers in Maine who have been fired from jobs in areas such as the Transportation Safety Administration, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Social Security Administration to bring them together and let them talk and know they are supported. Ruining people’s lives in that way is unacceptable, Leonard said.

"'They’ll all be at the #SoupKitchen, but there won’t be any money for that because the #Medicaid is gone,' she said."

  28. #AntiTrump protesters gathered outside #Massachusetts State House as part of nationwide action

    Robert Goulston
    February 05, 2025

"A crowd outside the Massachusetts State House quickly grew to hundreds of people around noon on a frigid Wednesday as people chanted their frustrations with President Donald #Trump, his policies and members of his leadership, including billionaire #ElonMusk. Within an hour, the crowd was on the move marching through #BostonCommon waving signs and chanting, '#NoTrump, #NoKKK, #NoFascistUSA!'

"Many of the protestors say they found out about the protest online under the hashtag #50501, meant to represent 50 protests in 50 states happening on one day. Similar protests occurred at state capitols across the country.

"'I think the straw that broke the camel’s back for me was when Elon Musk decided to pretty much take over the Treasury and make it his place to control where the money is going,' said Jackie Fuller, of Westford, who had a homemade sign reading '#StopTheCoup.' 'That was infuriating to me.'

"Husein Rokadia said he wanted to be in the crowd in solidarity with everyone who came out. Rokadia, of Arlington, is originally from India and now a naturalized citizen of this country.

"'I love the democratic process. And I feel that there’s considerable risk with the state of the nation as it is today. And I’m just here to voice my support for all the #protesters out here,' Rokadia explained. 'I want to leave a democratic nation behind for me, for my children and for the ones who come after us. This is such a hard thing to get, and it would be such a sad thing to lose.'

"The crowd continued to grow through the early afternoon, stretching from the foot of Beacon Hill, across Beacon Street, and onto the front steps on the public side of the gate of the State House. Traffic continued to move down Beacon Street with protestors packing the sidewalks on each side. A small contingent of Boston Police and Massachusetts State Police monitored."

  29. I was at a protest of one today in #PortlandMaine (not the first time). Unfortunately, I wasn't there on #January20 because I was getting over being sick, but there was a great turnout that day.

And it seems #AugustaMaine had a decent turnout today as well, so that's good.

But even though I was there by myself, most folks who saw me were supportive, a few thanked me, and only one #MAGA-type said that my protest was "Bullshit!" To which I replied, "You'll find out soon enough."

I don't mind being a protest of one, but next time, I plan on bringing some pepper spray just in case, and some cash for unhoused folks - who were way more supportive than some of the well-off passerbys.

  30. Packing up my collection of protest signs (except for the Monsanto one). If you don't have a sign for today, feel free to borrow one of mine. I'll be at Monument Square in #PortlandMaine around Noon (I'm usually on Pagan Standard Time).
