@NebulaTide +1 for #keepass and sync (to a hosted #nextcloud in my case). Worked rock solid for more than 10 years for me. So just keep it simple is often a good advice. I thought about #bitwarden / #vaultwarden too, but I think for single user setup it isn't worth the effort...

As we have seen some indicators for enshittyfication at Bitwarden, I‘m wondering if we must expect more to come and what’s the best alternative. Selfhosting Vaultwarden on a VPS? Running Vaultwarden on a home server with VPN access only? Or going radically offline, using KeepassXC and syncthing?

I've started to move over to KeePassXC+2FAS Authenticator because I am tired of paying for a service that isn't even supported on my Garuda Linux install.
Annoying, so I imported my Proton stuff already to my computer install...I just need to get the Android Client set-up next. Switching over my 2FA Codes over to 2FAS, then I can be rid of Proton Pass for good. I'd rather donate to open source projects anyway.
Bonus Content: So KeePassXC does do OTP codes but it doesn't show them in the menu properly. I only found out by double-clicking. Found out on Android there are OTP Codes shown, it would be nice if the Linux App would show them.

Not sure whether I want to keep with #Bitwarden, since they're integrating #AI into their platform. I believe it's currently opt-in and for corporations and developers, but I'm afraid that's only a for now state.
I've already been trying to use #KeePass more. So far, it's working well. The hassle is keeping separate, local password databases on my machines, which is a pain.

Oder als Antwort auf die von niemandem gestellte Frage, wie wenig Informationen man auf wie viel Bildschirmplatz unterbringen kann.

With both, I keep having issues in using my Passkeys.

+ has unlocking using my OS (like biometrics)
+ pretty slick own browser integration, though I sometimes don't understand why it won't match the website URL

My #LinuxJourney is going as expected – ups and downs. On the one hand, I spent half a day and didn't figure out, how to fix that some apps are not scaling with the rest, the ant-sized text hurts. Might be something X11 and Wayland related, but does Cinnamon even uses Wayland?! The more I searched, the more confused I got. Sadly one of these programs are KeePass2, but I absolutely refuse security apps, where LLM-generated code is allowed, no XC for me.

You know what a self hosted password manager is? It’s a local application. It’s not some complex 5 9s uptime service connecting life support patients to a front desk. Install #KeePass or some other password manager app and be done with it. 98% of the crap you spend a weekend building infra around can be solved with a simple local application. “Oh I need Nextcloud to edit my docs and” NO. You need a local install of LibreOffice or WPS or some other LOCAL application. This crap doesn’t need some docker crap to run.
You have files you wanna share? Fine. I could see justifying some type of NAS if you’re spendy, or just get an external hard drive to move files. But seriously how many fucking PowerPoints are you building from scratch on your phone? You’ve been lied to for the past 20 or so years of the “mobile revolution”, slowly and painstakingly gaslit by tech companies playing the slow game just to set you up for maximum profit extraction. WAKE UP PEOPLE

Man hat z. B. einen Unfall und Angehörige kommen nicht an die wichtigen Infos ran, die man im Passwortmanager gespeichert hat. Zum Beispiel ist der Linux-Computer durch ein Passwort gesichert, man verwendet 2FA durch Schlüsseldateien, Angehörige kennen sich technisch nicht aus usw.
In solchen Fällen kann ein gelegentlicher Papierausdruck hilfreich sein. Nahe Angehörige informiert man über den Aufbewahrungsort.

Noticed that KeepassXC fork KeepassChi apparently is in the process of changing to ChiPass, and that seems like a good thing in the longer term, the name kept on getting longer otherwise :)
