What I wish K9 Mail would do:
When you forward an email, but the attachments haven't been downloaded, please ASK me what I want to do:
- forward without attachments
- download attachments now, then forward
- do not forward

Instead of quietly doing the first option.

The latest version of K-9 Mail (18.0) is as broken as version 17.0 and 17.1 are.
While the 17.x versions just crashed after showing the incoming mailbox version 18.0 is showing "offline" at the same time f-droid, obtainium, nextcloud notes and mastodon ☺ work fine.
Does K-9 Mail in these versions need access to Google or a Google account ?
Going again back to 16.1 and looking for a different E-Mail client on Android.

Wow. Kleiner Schock gestern. Kein Zugriff mehr auf meine E-Mails. Hätts gar nicht gemerkt, wenn #FairEmail nicht gemeckert hätte, dass es nen Fehler auf Serverseite gibt. #K9mail hats nicht gemerkt. Es kamen keine neuen Mails rein.

Webmail per #Roundcube hat mir auch nen seltsamen nichtssagenden Fehler geschmissen und konnte auf keine E-Mails zugreifen... Hatte schon Angst mein Hoster hätte äh Probleme mit dem Server...
Aber dann kam es mir. Die Quota des Users war voll ausgenutzt. Kein weiterer Speicherplatz vorhanden. 🫠

Am I supposed to switch from #K9Mail to #Thunderbird on Android nowadays? From the changelog of the latest releases they seem to be identical. Is it just a different branding? Is there any beneficial feature why I should switch? Can't find much on the current status except the initial announcements from 2022.

I just updated k9-mail to 17.0 on android.
As soon as I select one mail to display ir crashes.
I'll go back to the previous version.

Seit k-9 Mail übernommen wurde, hat sich die App zu einem Bloat entwickelt.

Am Wochenende werden ich eine uralt-Version in meinem Archiv suchen und hoffen, dass der Import der Einstellungen funktioniert. Wenn nicht, nehme ich das neu-Einrichten als Buße, ein Update ohne Zwang gemacht zu haben.

Gerade wieder gesehen: bei E-Mail Clients wird der frei erfundene "Name" angezeigt und nicht die E-Mail Adresse. Ich habe meinen Android Mail-Client k-9 Mail so umkonfiguriert, dass immer die Mail-Adresse des Senders und nicht dessen Name angezeigt wird. Da ich sonst nur Thunderbird nutze: weiss jemand, ob und wie das bei anderen Mail-Clients geht und dokumentiert das für die grosse weite Windows- und Mac-Welt da draussen ?

@Tutanota Nice awareness. Although I have been using #Disroot as my primary mail service provider since 2018 (just after OpenMailBox was sold), I have recently added #Tuta as a secondary. (Recommendations from https://www.fsf.org/resources/webmail-systems)

Btw, I have been using #K9Mail (becoming #Thunderbird now) since a decade on my Android phone.

I have found that Tuta is not supporting IMAP/SMTP protocols and hence I will have to install Tuta's Android application. How does it works without these protocols?

A new surprise: #k9mail shows a red bar with a warning about [EXTERNAL E-MAIL], but doesn't display the mail text. This bar does not contain any link.
Is there a way to change this behaviour or should I use a different mail client or what ?
If I scroll to the bottom I see the attachment but the mail text (white on white, the required space for the mail text is probably used) is only visible if I select ("...as new mail" - in german: "Als neue Nachricht bearbeiten")

@echopapa @atarifrosch @necrosis Ich habe K-9 Mail #k9mail auf meinem Android Smartphone so konfiguriert, dass mir nicht der vom Absender selbst gewählten Namen, sondern dessen E-Mail Adresse angezeigt wird. Das hilft ungemein beim Erkennen von Phishing-Mails.
Eventuel geht das bei Desktop Mail-Clients auch - keine Ahnung. Dann muss man nicht unbedingt den Maiheader lesen und verstehen können.

Just tried Thunderbird as well and I can't download any emails in subfolders. (12.0+12.1)

Used to work fine 11.1.

K9 Mail/Thunderbird for Android 12.0, released a few days ago, introduced a bug where if you had multiple accounts and a unified inbox, it would crash on startup.

That bug's fixed in 12.1. But it revealed another bug also introduced in 12.0 where it won't properly sync with some IMAP setups, so I had to revert to 11.1 again because my primary email account is affected.

@chpietsch Könnte eine gute Idee sein die Gelegenheit zu nutzen und auf #Thunderbird (nicht betroffen) oder #FairEmail umzusteigen, da #K9Mail @fdroidorg ja demnächst™️ eh eingestellt wird.

#K9mail startet nicht mehr seit dem Update auf Version 12.0. Betroffen sind wohl alle, die den gemeinsamen Posteingang benutzen.

@fdroidorg beschreibt einen Workaround: Ein Widget installieren, das K9-Mail mit einem bestimmten IMAP-Account startet. Dann mit dem Zahnradsymbol in die Einstellungen | Anzeige gehen und das Häkchen neben Gemeinsamen Posteingang anzeigen wegnehmen. Danach lässt sich die App wieder starten.
