Dazu eine selfhosted #molly / #mollysocket und #NextPush - Instanz für #Molly, #Tusky u.v.m. wie bspw. #FairEmail, #Nextcloud, #KeePassDX, #DAVx5 ...

Wow. Kleiner Schock gestern. Kein Zugriff mehr auf meine E-Mails. Hätts gar nicht gemerkt, wenn #FairEmail nicht gemeckert hätte, dass es nen Fehler auf Serverseite gibt. #K9mail hats nicht gemerkt. Es kamen keine neuen Mails rein.

Webmail per #Roundcube hat mir auch nen seltsamen nichtssagenden Fehler geschmissen und konnte auf keine E-Mails zugreifen... Hatte schon Angst mein Hoster hätte äh Probleme mit dem Server...
Aber dann kam es mir. Die Quota des Users war voll ausgenutzt. Kein weiterer Speicherplatz vorhanden. 🫠

In order to give some more tips on what to explore next I'd say add @IzzyOnDroid repo to your f-droid install from apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/

Also als #MailApp für #Android kann ich guten Gewissens #FairEmail empfehlen.

Gibt es auch über #F-Droid zu beziehen, einige Funktionen sind aber kostenpflichtig. Dafür bekommt man aber eine from Scratch entwickelte sehr umfangreiche MailApp mit Fokus auf Datenschutz und Sicherheit.

@chpietsch Könnte eine gute Idee sein die Gelegenheit zu nutzen und auf #Thunderbird (nicht betroffen) oder #FairEmail umzusteigen, da #K9Mail @fdroidorg ja demnächst™️ eh eingestellt wird.

Ich habe jetzt mal die #App von #Thunderbird für #Android getestet.

Übernahme aller #Konten und #Mailadressen aus dem Thunderbird am #Linux Rechner per (in meinem Fall 4) #QRCode klappt super.

Dann allerdings fangen bei etlichen #Mailkonten, denen jeweils mehrere #Mailadressen zugeordnet sind, die Probleme an:

Vom Kontoname werden in einem farbigen Punkt nur die ersten 2 Buchstaben angezeigt. Zwar kann man die Farbe wählen, aber das reicht zur Unterscheidung nicht aus.

#Signaturen werden nicht übernommen, zumindest, wenn diese im Thunderbird am PC aus einer Textdatei eingebunden sind.

Wenn man unterhalb des #Posteingang (#Inbox) Unterordner hat, werden diese nicht wie beim Thunderbird am PC als Unterordner des Posteingang samt Hierarchie angezeigt, sondern jeder Unterordner in flacher Hierarchie in der Form "INBOX.Ordnername" aufgeführt.

Man kann immer nur einer einem Postfach zugeordneten Mailadresse einen #PGP Schlüssel zuweisen.

Der Ansatz für eine #Thunderbirdapp ist vielversprechend, aber noch ist gewaltig Luft nach oben.

Ich bleibe deshalb bis auf weiteres erst mal bei #FairEmail", das ich wärmsten empfehlen kann.

Zapraszam do lektury kolejnego wpisu z serii o Androidzie. Tym razem będzie o aplikacjach "must have", czyli o takich które najprawdopodobniej będziemy musieli zainstalować po pożegnaniu wujka G.

Respondiendo a un par de mensajes sobre móviles... Mientras vuelve BlackBerry* (ja ja), este es el mío. Los teclados físicos no son solo mejores para escribir y más bonitos, también abren las aplicaciones (la M para Mastodon, of course), navegan, copian y pegan...

Sticking with #Iceraven on Android (via APK install). #Librewolf, which I now use on Linux, has no Android version and they suggest #MullBrowser (via Fdroid) but it wouldn't sync for me.

As for email I use the #Betterbird soft fork of #Thunderbird on #Linux (easier to set up for windows, btw) and the excellent #FairEmail on #Android.

Habe meinen #Dovevot die Authentifizierungvon auth=cram-md5 auf auth=scram-sha-512 umgestellt.

#SnappyMail kann sich jetzt mit Dovecot verbinden, #Thunderbird und #FairEmail allerdings nicht. Unterstützen beide etwa kein SCRAM-SHA-512?

Beide unterstützen CRAM-MD5, aber SnappyMail offenbar nicht.

Bin gerade dezent genervt. Entweder kann ich (ohne auth via LOGIN bzw. PLAIN) SnappyMail verwenden oder Thunderbird und FairEmail. Aber alle drei zu verwenden funktionieren nicht.

Usé K-9 durante mucho tiempo para el correo electrónico en Android, y es una aplicación estupenda (veremos qué pasa tras convertirse en Thunderbird), pero cuando me cambié a FairEmail ya no hubo vuelta atrás.

@at69 #FairEmail ist jeden Cent der Unterstützung wert, ich benutze es nun schon mehrere Jahre auf dem Android Ackerschnacker.

Daneben noch #JtxBoard für Aufgaben und Journale, weil es sich via DavX so schön über meine #NextCloud mit #Korganizer & Co verknüpfeln lässt. Auch, wenn ich immer weniger am Rechner bzw. online erledige, weil ich wieder vermehrt auf Papier, Füller & Schreibmaschine zurückgreife... das sind tolle Tools, die ich gerne unterstütze. :smile:

Talking of #K9email and essentially #ThunderbirdForAndroid, it's interesting to look at from the outside in. K9 fans are adamant that it's the gold standard in #Android email apps. #FOSS enthusiasts will swear by #FairEmail and anyone that's objectively impartial will tell you both could do better, for different reasons.

K9 has a bunch of legacy debt and it's unfortunate that they'll bring that over to #Thunderbird. If you were designing a brand new email app from the ground up, it would do a lot of things differently than how K9 does them and to appease the userbase, that will likely remain the case forever.

FairEmail does better in a bunch of ways, but also has too many options and irregular UX components. Needless ones at that. Like the bottom bar. The weird padding on the top bar and the choice of assets. Seriously, just use material icons. They're available online for free!

I personally feel that this is the optimal delivery and update methodology for future software distribution.

I've written about this at length in several articles, and more and more service daemons and client software are taking advantage of this form of direct from the developers method of delivery - not just Android apps.

#FairEmail is one such app that even states in the docs that this is the preferred method, although they do support a total of four methods:

- Google PlayStore - crippleware due to google funding source restrictions. In all cases, this is by far the worst distribution point for software, if not with respect for the product that the developers want to deliver, but also with regards for the privacy of the users who are tracked, mined, and themselves repackaged as a quantifiable inventory item.
- F-Droid custom Dev's repo - 2nd best option, because this is built with the developer's keys when the developer decides to push the product, and contain all feature sets that the developer chooses to include.
- F-Droid repo - 3rd best option, since it is signed with F-Droid's keys and typically lags by some measure of time with respect to release dates, considering that F-Droid staff pushes these out on a best effort basis, according to the time they have available to do so.
- Direct from the developers Git repo - This is the best method. They push a release and the next time you open the app you're notified of an update.

This is part of the magic of Slackware's philosophy too - Patrick and team don't church it up like most distro's do (Debian and AlmaLinux quite often, quite heavily wrt customizations, use Apache or Nginx HTTP servers as examples). Slackware tries to package up software as close to how the upstream intends it to be.

In earlier articles I've published on the topic, I've focused at times on a solution to a theme proffered by #Moxie_Marlinspike, who denigrates the open source model somewhat, for being at a great disadvantage when compared to that of proprietary solutions that can update and evolve protocols, APIs, etc., on a whim, because they're centrally managed and controlled by a single dictatorial source. Microsoft is one such classic example. You simply have NO CHOICE as to when you must allow your software to be EOLed, evolve, or update itself.

Using this model, however, where a central repo, or a distributed, CDN type of repo mirroring is deployed at the origin by the development team itself, FOSS has no problem upgrading even things like protocols as they evolve. Of course, it is ultimately up to the operators of the software to allow updates and the prerogative of the developers to establish the level of nags that users of the software will experience until they permit the updates to occur, but that's beyond the scope of the basis of advocating for this type of delivery model.

Okay I think I'm bordering on hijacking this thread, so I'll make a comment about these types of shennigans by Google, and how one one hand it's certainly a huge frustration, if not an impediment to being found and adopted by users, but moreover, a predatory practice by one of the most egregious violators of personal choice in the free market of consumerism and commerce.

It may hurt being pulled like that, but IMO, I don't think there's anything preventing the good folks behind #Snikket from pushing out the kind of crippleware that google wants them to, while at the same time pushing banner splashes in the app that explain just how fricken' useless it is under the terms necessary to distribute it via that medium, and encouraging users to install it instead by following the instructions at the #git_repo for a fully featured, #e2ee secure messaging platform.

IOW, there's always a silver lining - wear this dejection as a badge of honor and as the evidence to support the fact that you're on the right track!

Leider stuft #Fairemail seit einigen Monaten (und mit steigender Tendenz) ordentliche Mails fälschlich als Junk ein. Ich muss mittlerweile jeden Tag in den Junk-Ordner gehen und Mails retten. Vielleicht verträgt es sich nicht mit Roundcube.

Welche #EmailApp empfehlt ihr als Alternative für Android? Muss nicht kostenlos sein.

(Ich lese auch Testberichte; mich interessieren aber zusätzlich persönliche gute Erfahrungen von Followern.)

@zeitverschreib auf jeden Fall, bin damals auch überwiegend wegen des schlechten UI von #K9Mail zu #FairEmail gewechselt.

Das #K9Mail aber künftig als einer der guten „eigenen“ #Clients wegfällt finde ich dennoch nicht toll. Auf der anderen Seite freu ich mich für den Entwickler das er künftig sein Job relativ gesichert in Vollzeit bei #Mozilla mit #ThunderbirdMobile nachgehen kannn.
